Q: Do you still think that China is a safe place?

I personally think that China has a lot more violent crime that we just don't hear about because the government has an agenda to "build a safe and harmonious society," and we all know how they love to control the message and protect their image.  However, sometimes the crime is so appalling or bizarre that it gets out and  warrants news coverage, again because they want to control the message.  But this society is so tightly bound, that the pressure builds and releasing that pressure results in some pretty heinous crimes.  I also believe that a lot of Chinese people are standing on the edge of sanity and at any moment will break down.  It's a mixture of being bottled up, lack of moral aptitude and being uneducated that leaves them ill equipped to deal with something as simple as breaking up with a gf or bf.  But those in power want you to look the other way and believe that, "China is peaceful."  I'm thinking of the recent incident in the fast food place.  So, I stand by my previous conviction that China is no safer than other countries.  It's merely a deception of safety caused by omitting it from the nightly news.

i think it depends on the city and the city-"ren"s mainly..

some cities are quite peaceful while others are not like that..

to hear what is happening in one's own residing city one doesn't need to have media access or its influence..

as far as safety is concerned i can just say that post-disaster system looks good but not sure if it is the truth or not, hard to guess. For eg in Xinjiang province the govt is trying hard and it looks as if things are positive. and the crack down plus arrest of a woman probably involved in MCDonalds seen... things do look peaceful to me

So what you're saying is the borrowing dead beat English teacher broke up with big bottomed chronically unemployed narcsistic Chinese woman in Shanghai's most famous Burger King causing a violent uprising that didn't make the world news.?

It's a shame that world events aren't covered in detail. Anyone know what happened in Syria today?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
