Q: Do you support not paying discharged foreign teachers at British Columbia certifed schools?

I was a teacher at the Mianyang Foreign Languages School.  After 30 days, I was discharged without any payment and $ 2,000 USD poorer for a round-trip ticket to China.   Please consider using countries not violating human rights in your future activities.

Why don't you open new tread with the name of the School, address and other details?

If you signed Contract with 30 days probation in it, School is entitled to make decision of hiring you or not, after 'probation period' is finished.

That's not 'violation of human rights'. Your post is spam message/Q, because you post it without detailed explanation. You didn't give warning about School to the new FT (Thank you!), because you're spamming without detailed explanation. Some posters here are in the know of Chinese Law, and you can count, you'll get right advice, how to deal with the problem.

icnif77:

Search (on the top of the page) for 'Helen', and you'll see how I named everybody at the School in Q.

I also posted contact of Government org. (SAFEA), with the contact name and phone number. Otherwise, I could also make-everything-up.

Without details, your post is SPAM.

Give the address of the school, and the details of your story. It will be very useful for future would be teacher. The "30 days test period and then we fire you" trick is an old classic. Because there is no such a thing as "Laowai Union", the bosses can pull that without damages. We can change that. Tell us your story + full address of the school !

I have been a supporter of probation periods, however this story gives me the idea that there should be some parameters; one of them would insure the FT was paid during said period.  I do have to wonder. With the demand for FTs; why would they release you?

Oh Yeah: I don't support non payment of of people during probation periods.

i read somewhere about his school... i cant, for the life of me, remember where i saw it.  i heard they keep the teachers up to the probation period, then let you go.  that way they can avoid the RP hassle, salary, and a bunch of other things.  call them out!  post everything in detail!  but, BUT be careful using your contact info on the internet... the chinese, especially schools, can be very spiteful.  the more detail you put out there, the more legit your case sounds.

I agree more details are required, but I disagree with naming the school.

The OP might be a rival school employee or maybe an FT who has done something naughty. Nobody will ever know I expect.  In any case, schools deserve a fair chance to respond to accusations before their name is dragged through the mud. Indeed, the OP might find the libel laws in his own country are rather more strict than they are here !!

I also agree this is not a human rights issue, it's an employment law issue. And if the OP was legally employed by the school, then he would find he does indeed have employment rights in China. There are lot's of threads on many forums on how to try to get payment for work done.

It's unfortunate the OP has had a bad experience in China, but he does seem to have given up at the first hurdle and jumped on a plane back home.  For him to imply that he has had his human rights violated over an employment dispute also indicates that he has not exactly arrived on these shores with an open mind in the first place.

Anyhow, to the OP, I would recommend putting the lost wages down to experience.  If your serious about teaching here, have another go. There are plenty of good schools out there, but there are no iron rice bowls unfortunately.

did you talk to a foreign teacher presently working at that school for a reference and did you look up any old flames about the school on the internet, if you failed to do this, then you learned a lesson of life. perception is seldom reality, in china reality is hell and perception is heaven , and the two will definitely never meet each other.
also if you are from british columbia, we send kids to abbotsford for grade 12 and canadian universities and i can get you a job with my group , 10000 rmb, free housing and internet, send me a private message for details. the pay for international schools in other cities is better, but you will be in a smaller city with lower living costs, tier 3 , a million people.

Sam, Sam, Sam. You posted the same question two months ago back in November on this board.

http://answers.echinacities.com/question/payment-foreign-teachers-british-columbia-ministry-education-certified-schools

And you posted the same question on another teaching forum whose name escapes me at the moment. Coulda been Dave's ESL cafe. Don't remember.

In any case, what is your point, dude?
