Q: Do you think cabin crew on domestic airlines do enough to enforce safety?

I recently took a flight and was struck by how hastily the cabin crew went through the cabin before take-off to ensure that all passenger's phones and electronic devices were switched off. Also worrying, I had a coat over my safety belt so the air hostess who quickly passed through had no idea of knowing whether or not I was actually using my seatbelt and didn't bother to lift up the coat to check.

Then during our descent, the announcement that we were about to land came literally about a minute before we hit the ground which was also unprofessional in my opinion. Usually they make an announcement 15-20 minutes before landing to tell passengers that the plane has begun its descent etc. I was enthralled in my book and didn't even notice that we were landing so soon until I looked out the window and saw that the ground was freakishly close.

Then when the airplane landed an announcement was made to remain seated until the aircraft finished taxying but it being China, of course no-one complied and no cabin crew member even bothered to ask people to sit down.

This is sub-standard in my opinion and indicates that China's airline industry has a lot of catching up to do with the Western counterparts. And it's not just the airlines...it's the people too. Not abiding by the airlines' safety rules is just uncivilized and irresponsible. I flew with China Eastern by the way and really have nothing good to say about them after my flight.

I know what you mean.  I always find it amusing when flying into/out of China with a lot of Chinese passengers who are not used to enforcement of the rules (happened especially on a recent flight to/from Hong Kong).  Many face points get deducted

You know, a lot of the effort put into the safety procedures on a plane is to make passengers have a bit of respect for it compared to being on a train. The seatbelt on a plane is mainly there to help identify the bodies after a crash, the brace position protects the teeth so you can be ID'ed that way.

My gosh, two years in China and I write that. I must say I also find the flight attendants on domestic flights incredibly laid back when it comes to the routines. Generally on international flights all flight crews behave in the same way no matter what airline. I guess the domestic flights are the low end of the food chain for flight attendants.

That being said, I really really like when people obey rules. I honestly do not believe that my phone being on will crash a plane, but I will turn it off anyway, just because the rules say so. I will also ask the people sitting next to me to wear their seatbelts, not so much because I care about their safety, but mostly because I do not want them crushing me if the plane hits an air pocket.

When it comes to strangers on a plane, the best kind is those who sit still, shut up and do not fart.

Absolutely they do; I was sitting beside the emergency exit on a domestic flight to Shanghai once and the stewardess came and said to me "Must to read here the notice. When the plane crashes, you are to open this door." Now if that's not strict attention to passenger safety, I don't know what is.

Female crew on Chinese airplanes are just all beautiful. Who cares for anything else, when she walks up and down the cabin.

Very similar to Chinese (Liaoning) Traffic police: 180 cm tall woman in police uniform is standing in the middle of busy crossing, and regulating the traffic.

I am thinking, if she would stand that beautiful in any English crossing, every passing driver would say (or think): 'YES ( indeed )!, Ma'am....!'

While China is bad, I've seen worse. I once took a plane in Pakistan where on the final taxi to the terminal everyone got up and started getting their bags until the pilot actually came out and told them to sit back down or the plane wasn't going anywhere.

crimochina:

how is that worse than china? the pilot did his job and told them to stop. in china the crew doesn't do anything to police bad behavior. that is why chinese have their kids poop in the aisles

Not quite sure about this. I know once they thought my ipod was an iphone. They do look similiar. I have always been told to wear the seatbelt and keep the seat upright.

One time on the plane when I was getting my food the person in front of me didn't want to eat. She just wanted to sleep. Well, it was hard to eat with someone's chair at an angle. SO I told the stewardess to make the lady move her chair until after lunch was finished.

It was so weird she actually thought I cared if the lady ate or drank or not. She said: "I already asked if her she wants anything she said no!" I said no I don't care about that I just want her to move her seat up. Now that's unsafe right there because it was difficult to eat and that is something they need to change.

During lunch, breakfast or dinner time every passenger whether they want to eat or not should put the chair seat up just as if they were landing or taking off.

chinese crew members do not do anything to enforce any rules on the plane. they seem to  have flat out given up. they walk the aisles with their heads down to ignore what passengers are doing
