Q: Do you think a Chinese porn industry would be a good thing?
Chinese have a very puritantical attitude towards nudity let alone the ancient art of bumping uglies, so legal pornography doesn't won't likely ever happen.
However, there are some benefits to cultivating a Chinese porno industry:
1) Can wean China off from being overly reliant upon foreign imports (read: Japan)
2) Chinese men can now "shake hands with Mr Johnson" without guilt as they are supporting a homegrown industry
3) can finally understand the dialog from the many porno parodies made
4) Can create a prurient interest that "stimulates" the economy
5) Let's face it: will serve as a sex ed course to millions who don't know what goes where
6) Finally! A chance for China to tell its side of the story by disseminating the glorious culture of China
Reasonable reasons?

How do you see porn working with funny sound effects <KAPOV> I think some of the on-screen speech bubbles and stuff <SPLATT> would draw away the attention from the important parts.

About Chinese being puritan for nudity... I think it's not so simple. In several occasion, I've been completely naked amongst many other naked men: communal showers in a water park, hydrotherapy change room (university paid it to all teaching staff. Seeing your colleagues naked, yeah !). And, well, least that can be said, people did not show much problem to be naked in front of others. It was all very natural, and believe it or not, I got much less stare than I use to have while walking dressed. And hum... let's say that I've first hand experience that while some girls are very prude, some will just undress and walk to the shower butt-naked without even thinking doing anything wrong.
So prude, yes, but it depends on which context.

All you really silly males...there is a rather somewhat flourshing Chinese porn industry...and I do mean Chinese. Nothing like what comes out of Hollywood but a lot more raucous than the Japanese one.

China has a very high number of laws that restrict all sorts of things, and there's a reason for that. Two actually : firstly, so that government can blame anyone for anything when it sees fit, and secondly, because people are incapable of being reasonable.
If something is forbidden, it's understood as allowed but discreetly as long as it is not really enforced on a constant basis. If something is allowed within the scope of some limits, it's understood as allowed within the scope of that's actually checked and enforced. If something is allowed freely, all that can be abused about it will be abused until it's not allowed anymore.
Casino and bets are forbidden because men are reputed for going bankrupted because of them. Prostitution is forbidden because it would be a real mess, and pornography as well. Even births and migration are controlled more or less severely according to agendas.
Legally speaking, you always need to be one step ahead of what's really going on, or it spins out of control.

They do allow foreigners to "perform" but you have to be in really good physical shape, not appear burnt out from too many drugs or too much drinking, able to ... well.... you know what ..., and not have bad breath either. If that fits the bill, you may wish to audition.
