Browsing through the main headlines of Chinese news depresses me because you read so much about mass murders, massacres at schools, child abuse and abductions and so much more. Many of the crimes, especially murder, stem from mentally unstable individuals who seek revenge either on an individual or society on the whole. Have atrocities like these been increasing in the past decade or so because of greater societal pressure to get rich and successful or has the number of such heinous crimes been the same in the pre-reform era?

It would seem so wouldn't you think? I mean with all the articles you read daily about shooting sprees, stabbing's and so forth one can only assume it is on the rise. Add that to the extra crime from outsiders and you've got a sure increase in the crime rate. I know there was some raping's around the city I live. So yes! (!
He he, I said: "city"!
Crime is and always will be rampant here. The difference is that nowadays we have more opportunities and ways to find out about it. Plain and simple.
