Q: Do you think fast food restaurant workers here will intentionally mess with people's food?

The thing about eating out here for me that bugs me or worries me is that many of the workers/employees' of the restaurants or fast food restaurants I know for a fact don't wash their hands after they've gone to the bathroom. The reason I know this is because every time I've gone out I've never seen a single employee working at a food joint wash his hands... So if you know how gross they are by observing such behaviors do you believe they will mess with people's food intentionally or not?

I've thought about this plenty, and yeh, given that many foolish people are prone to judge others by their nationality, I think it's always possible that some fool will think himself justified in gobbing in your food because some waiguoren split up with his sister. Having said that i'm actually more concerned with what goes in the pot in the first place. People in hard times cut corners, and as much as China may seem to be on the up and up, there are 'plenty' of people suffering hard times. So is that chicken burger really chicken? And does it have some angry dude's gob on it? Hahahaha, eat up son, they're starving in Africa.

This is not a China problem but a global one...I like to observe people...and while people in China wash their hands less than back home on average...a HUGE percentage do the same at home.

I used to work in a bakery when I was young...and I witnessed the master baker taking a dump...not washing his hands...and go right back to rolling doe after....many many times.

Needless to say I refused to sample his bakery products.

You roll the dice every time you go out...obviously a little more here.

I remember going to the pictures with my brother once in Camden Town in London. We went for a leak before the pic and the loo was full so we stood waiting. Then some guy came out of a closed (and locked) toilet and walked straight out the door, which to my mind meant he'd had a dump and not washed; and I was just processing this thought when another fella turned from one of the urinals and walked straight to a hand-dryer. I just remember thinking, animals. I'm surrounded by animals. And 'THAT' is why I came to China. Haha, only kidding.........these people are pigs too.

You should conduct a sociological experiment next time you are at a restaurant or bar...as I have done often...at least half the men (not sure about the women) will walk out without washing....happens everywhere.

Think about that the next time some dude wants to shake your hand in greeting.

Yup, people are pigs. We've all heard the stories about the tests done on peanuts in bars. They're covered in piss. And door-handles? Tests have shown that most door-handles are covered in piss and shit. And money? Apparently any single note you carry in your pocket has at least 100 different samples of piss, shit and vomit on it.

Ok, i'm maybe exaggerating now. But I still won't eat beer nuts.

I have often thought that when the waiter stands there waiting to watch you eat. Perhaps for the satisfaction of watching you eat the food he has contaminated in some way.

One cannot forget that they are trained to hate all foreigners throughout all their school years. Also, people in low paid jobs such as these are generally lesser educated and more hateful of life in general.

EDIT: Let's not forget the leftover food that is scraped off the plates and back into the pot.

mArtiAn:

I'm not so convinced that everyone is trained to hate me, I just think that's the way people are; they steer away from what's different and feel at home with what they see as the same as them. I still make a point of being very polite to waiters though.

I was seeing a Politics teacher in secret once. She told me that part of her job was to make sure that the Chinese never forgot the century of humiliation inflicted on China by foreigners. The things she taught were designed to incite hatred.

yes marty , everyone in every country is taught to hate everyone else. give it a rest. we are from other countries. we know first hand that the "same everywhere else" argument is garbage. i've had students tell me the same thing as traveler. they are also taught to hate mongolians and other minorities.

which country you know teaches their students to hate others?

Can't argue with that, Traveler, that's shocking. Personally I didn't go to school, I stayed in the park and got high. And Crimo we've been round in these circles before. I believe people to be the same allllll over the world. As everwy wittle snowfwake is differwent, so too are they the same. Yeh I know, I know.....i'm a bleeding hippy, but that's what I believe. Fair enough? Fair enough.

I have taught in both high schools and colleges in Australia, and can assure you that the racism taught in China is definitely not repeated in Australia. In fact, racial tolerance, and racial acceptance, are compulsory.

I did basic training, and the first two years of my education degree, at a police academy in Australia, and assisted instructors teaching there. I felt that the level of racism taught there was unacceptable, but it was all quite a while back. So it is not completely lacking in Australia.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
