Q: Do you think is it easy to have a big dog in Beijing?

One day I wish to have a dog like Labrador, but not sure if it's good to have and raising this kind of dog in Beijing. For example, there are many parks where people are not  allowed walking around with dogs. What do you think?

No, I think Beijing is probably the worst place ever for a big dog that needs a lot of exercise and room to run around. Especially living in an apartment.

Anyway, there's probably some sort of bylaw against keeping dogs bigger than a rat in Beijing.

You'll need loads of O2 containers, me thinks.

I saw a lot of big dogs in my complex and round the local area in Beijing.  People walk there dog around a nice complex there.  I heard people with big dogs register them outside of Beijing as you not allowed a dog over a certain size.  Police turn blind eyes unless something bad happens no doubt.

I would not recommend getting a big dog in Beijing as it is unfair on the animal. I would also not that while police turn a blind eye on the locals they would be less inclinded to turn a blind eye to you having an unregistred animal. It just takes one idiot to report you.

ScotsAlan:

I agree, apart from the bit about an idiot reporting you.

In the UK they introduced the dangerous dogs act because of children being mauled.

Now, I am pretty much against excessive laws and regulations, but when it comes to laws about potentially dangerous dogs..... well, why do people want them?

Yeah yeah, I know lapdogs are snappy little critters, but easier to pull one of them off a kid it is a 50 Kg Rotweiler.

big dogs knocking over kids made jinan change the law, no dogs over 25 kg in the city, probably not enforced until something happens with a big dog though, if jinan has the law they probably, no change that, they definitely copied some other cities law like beijing or shenzhen, might want to check the law before getting the dog, a chinese person breaking the law is fine but we foreigners are held to a higher standard.

Apparently you need to get an expensive license for a big dog, that's why my neighbour always walks around with his like it's a Porsche
