Q: Do you think a pet duck would be a good idea?

I could get it a leash and take it for walks.  A small tub inside for it to swim in.

And the locals would all think I'm nuts and leave me alone.  Who needs a dog when you have a duck?

What do you think?

brilliant.  i knew a guy in L.A. who was permafried from various drugs.  he had a pet duck.  he was always neglecting it and not feeding it so my buddy Thomas stole it.  the druggy had a hunch it was him and every time we saw him he would say, "hey, where's my duck???"  thought i would share that with you.

Joey and Chandler had one on Friend's and it went well for them. Since I saw that I've always wanted a duck as a pet. I think if he had the right personality then it would be awesome.

Ducks can spread the flu if they get sick and mutate in the human body if contracted, make sure you get the ducks all of their shots, they carry lots of little pest under their feathers. a duckling gave my son a rash.

So rule in china don't trust ducks or duck houses. lol

Scandinavian:

why do you give your son a duck if you are not aware that ducks coming from the market are dirty and can kill you son. ? you sound like you blame the duck when you should blame yourself.

His friend bought it for him outside, I got home from work and I found it and didn't kill it, so I told my son we need to help the duck find it mom and dad, so we set it free in the river.

It's one of those days where the kid comes home with something that makes you say Oh my God. I'll never forget bring a snake home when I was young lol.

@Scan, check my English man, I didn't say "give", so how can I blame myself?. Don't be stupid..It's embarrassing to yourself and insulting to all foreigners, if you are not Chinese that is. So you only can blame yourself for this reading mistake. Do you really think a foreigner would buy his kid a duck from here? Thats why I'm wondering if you're a Chinese..

Can you potty-train a duck ? I think he/she would need lots of space to not feel stressed (birds pluck their feathers when stressed and tend to get sick).

But walking with a duck on leash is soooooo full of win. You can top that by replacing the duck by a goose.

Actually there is a man in my street who has a pet duck, he walks it in the evening. F**king beeezarrr. And we used to have a pet duck in my family when I was a kid. Called it Jemima. In the end we decided the kindest thing would be to give it to an uncle's farm. Uncle Dick. It got trodden on by a bullock. All true.

Do ducks not fly away unless you break their wings ? If not then go for it. Get a leash for it and walk it in the park

Go for it, but only if you are planning on staying in China for a while! They can live a long time.

Ducks lay bigger, higher quality eggs than chickens, so why not? Also, they make really good pets. However, if you want to stay on the down low, don't get a pet duck. You'll be an instant celebrity. I want ducks, actually!

I had two ducks, they were awesome, Delores and Dwight,  they had a pool and i took them for walks, and they loved me. Never pooped on me once. The Chinese thought i was mental but chicks loved it. Anyways they died. I coudnt bring myself to get more.  If you do it, dont get ducklings too young. Older ducks have a much better chance for survival, and dont get them from a pet market. I dont know if its true but ive heard that these dicks will sell diseased cheap pets so that they die and you buy others. Sounds fishy but I have had 2 ducks and a puppy die within a week of buying them. So try to get them from a farm if you do. Have fun!

That's awesome.  Now I want 2 ducks!

I figured the chicks would love a duck so you confirmed my hunch.

I've seen a pet duck, it was cool. I saw a guy on boat that had peacocks running around in the park, he whistled and they got on their perches on the boat and he tied them.I didn't know you could train them to come.

You should name the Chinese duck: Dr. Quack. Don't forget to bring your pooper-scooper along on walks, unless you go native and don't give a crap. ...that sounds wrong: You do give a crap. You know, male ducks sort of gang up on the females to rape them. I once saw a female being chased, and she let out a humongous airblast of poo. Scared the chasing males right away, and they didn't come back! Your duck is sure to bring you endless entertainment. If your leash has a little bow tie stuck to it, he will waddle with style. Locals might even stop staring at the foreigner!

Sure, but then you MUST name him "Howard" after that weird-ass movie.

You can put a little astronaut helmet and everything. Coin is right, ducks are easily one of the "rapiest"animals on the planet. They are cute and cuddly looking but deep down inside lurks a serial rapist... Kind of makes me not feel bad when I gorge myself on Beijing duck.
