This may seem somewhat paranoid, but was recently informed (by a Chinese student) that there is well over a million Internet Police in China,monitoring/checking/censoring..
.As we all know, if trying to find out different info.in China e.g. try to google Democracy or Tibet & see what happens..
Do you think some of us here that are particulary critical of China in general & more specically of its Govt. (as I have done at times) are being 'monitoried' ?
That some how 'they' have our email address, & we are on some kind of 'black list' or warning list, that suggests we are trouble makers?
Or, as I like to think, that this is a completely open & free forum, where we can express our views/opinions, no matter how critical/negative they may be of China & the Govt. without any repercussions, as most of us do at home.
What do you think?
With governments all over the world requesting for information from Facebook, Twitter and social networks, it is likely that such information may be requested by the authorities here. Perhaps just to see how us foreigners view local policies and such. I think it's mostly for analysis and studies. I wouldn't say that they are out to catch posters saying critical stuff but again, there may be an invisible line not to cross. In any event, we have yet to see anyone on this site deported due to their opinions posted herein.
well, I bet I have crossed that line (directly saying Uncle M was a heinous tard), I haven't woken up dead yet. But of course when u read about physically healthy young western males jumping off buildings to their death,,,, well, last time I checked 2+2=4. sooooo, next time u read that, u do the math. Cheers.
I have no problem with the local laws. They are what they are and we must comply. same as any other country in the world.
Of course we are monitored here, just as we are monitored on wechat, our txt messages and Weibo. The American Government monitor our emails. So why should it be different here?
I have spent a couple of years looking for a good forum in China. This is the best I have found, so I signed up. This is the most active, and the most helpful to the people who need help. It's a good forum.
But the problem is.... I have enough points to get a torch to satisfy my torch fetish.... but do I have the courage to give my address?
Not that it matters of course, THEY already know where I live. Not admin of course.....
I think what you have to be careful of is being led by people posting from outside China. If you are living in China you need to be aware of the local laws, and try not to cross the line. Don't let yourself be baited.
It is free and open forum, till 'it doesn't get closed'! Or 'harmonized' by Mod, as we say, who appears sometimes as 'dog' or 'pig'.I'm not sure, what is the latest feature.

http://answers.echinacities.com/question/would-you-install-tails-your-com-puter
The answer is yes. The status quo must be maintained at all costs. Perhaps they're flogging a dead horse... but, at this moment in time, they're flogging the dead horse.
I live in Xinjiang and I know for a fact that my personal emails are being monitored. How do I know this? My friend (Uyhgir, with excellent English) is regularly required/seconded to translate cybermedia to the local gov't. She has told me that my emails have been included in what she's been required to translate.
So far, no knock on the door.
But what....I'm not afraid at all. I do respect Chinese ppl, I like them when they focus.. but I think they are given little or no chance of evolving as humans of the world due to the oppressive and retarded nature of the mission of the Chinese gov't.
The gov't's mission is to keep the ppl down and they are doing a very good job of it.
But tomorrow is coming...it's the future.
Will you still be here then? Will I?
I don't think we are being monitored, which is why what I say is totally my honest and true opinion.
On a related note, I, for one, welcome our new Chinese overlords.
Of course we are they gather information about web pages we use and places we work , and on some occations I would think go after a indavidual ( spell check not working again) I bet if somebody posted a location of a place where girls are cheap and the Booze was easy and had a lot of foreigners the address would be raided within a day or two remember this site is not foreign owned
monitor them back... with a bullet to the head

She was giving head? Was it a bullet to the head she was giving?
All internet activity is monitored:
when you use a search engine, your results are based on all the previous searches you have made, trying to nudge you in a certain direction.
Emails are monitored within the countries, scanned for specific words/phrases.
Only a fool would think ANY internet activity is not watched, especially on any politically sensitive topics.
double post
WHY ???????
royceH:
NO WHY!!
Oops...now I have to jump out the window! What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
No I don't, I would certainly not accuse a regime that is tolerant to ethnic minorities of carpet monitoring the interwebs.
Praise Chairman Mao
(the above blurt was written without trying to limit sarcasm)

I got the hypnotoad T-shirt. Maybe I should get my "I love unkie Mao" shirt too.
DrMonkey:
I would love a "Hello Mao" T-Shirt, in the style of "Hello Kitty", with a cute cartoonish uncle Mao. I would be ok with uncle Deng too.
Scandinavian:
I was looking for the "People who monitor the internet has small penises" tshirt, but haven't found it yet.
Yes of course. They monitor emails. I have given up tying to send emails to my step daughter She never gets them. I have never said anything bad about he Chinese government because thy are not much different than our US government
100% we are. But I don't think we are much of a threat. We get out of hand sometimes but not that bad and not bad enough for them to ever do anything.
News at 11 : a forum targeting 0.01% of a country's population, read by 0.00001% of the population, triggered an unstoppable revolution. Thanks to their devastative rhetoric skills, the arm-chair guerrillas managed to wake-up a nation of zombies from their jingoist, conservative, greed-fueled <insert here your favorite adjectives> stupor.
Censor, I know you just wet your pants. Nah, seriously, you take more risk walking in a street than talking politics here.
Well if we are, then lets not be rude. Let's all say hi: 您们好
Probably not actively monitored, but most certainly stored and archived, just in case exposing your shit could help someone someday.
There's a serial number below, right on the bottom. It means watchlist.
Yes, but I expected it when I came to China. I did not expect however to be monitored in America. This link shocked the shit out of me...
In the US, comedian Wanda Sykes had a great answer to the question about the NSA/Snowden:
"How arrogant are you to think that your conversations are that important? Think about the stuff you talked about today, and do you really think anybody wants to listen to that garbage?”
Think that applies here also
icnif77:
Your comedian doesn't understand real purpose of collecting metadata. Why did NSA miss and never react to real 'important' matters?
Instead of monitoring websites, better they would solve this fucking pollution that kill us here at all !!!!
