I just ain't sure what we'll do with the NZ High Court ... 2-weeks of forced labour comes to mind ...

Your chances of seeing it a cinema seem remote - I don't think the other Jackass movies were shown - but I'm sure it'll be available online.

It'll be a must see movie though, the previews look hilarious.

Any poster camping on the parliament's lawn  in Wellington, pls. stand up! broken heart

Nobody else but RT, of course ...

Hilarity ... of the article ...

While .gov turned on the lawn sprinklers, somebody from the .gov suggested they should mix Cofid vaccine in the water ...

Lol, they've been playing Barry Manilow songs and the Macarena on a loop too. There's also a tropical storm hitting the middle of NZ and thrashing them with wind and rain....

Now, the music ... I'd bother them with Brahms and Beethoven, instead.

I am sure, some of the protesters and especially the kids enjoyed Macarena ... years ago, you could hear and see moves of that tune just about everywhere ... you go  ... in the same day.

I remember Macarena, not a bad song the first few times, got old after every radio station played it to death, listening to it on a loop all night in a leaky tent that's trying to blow away would get old fast.

I read somewhere they googled a playlist of the most annoying songs ever, they're probably working their way through that list.

Even worse than the music and the weather....I read somewhere else pinkeye and something else probably just as unpleasant are spreading through them too, some of them decided to vandalise the nearest public bathrooms so now hygiene is a bit of an issue,,,  .

"The protest at New Zealand’s parliament is continuing for the fifth day, with around 1,000 camping outside, according to local media estimates. Yeah they have a right to protest and everyone is ok with that, but people in Wellington are sick of them.

Businesses are hurting because the streets are all closed and the protestors have been attacking / abusing people in the area, even kids trying to go to school. Apparantly the 'freedom to choose' thing they're braying about only applies if people happen to make the same choice as them, if you choose to wear a mask you might get attacked for it.

There are people from all sorts of groups - anti vaxxers, qanon conspiracy theorists, white supremacists, various nutters with swastikas and Trump flags, unemployed weirdos, fundamentalist Christian nutters etc and they all seem to have a different agenda, some of their messages are just incoherent ranting. A lot of them just seem to be there hoping for trouble.

The original organisers were pretty legit as far as I could see, they seemed to be trying to protest in a reasonable way. A lot of them left when it turned into different groups threatening people, calling for media and politicians to be hung etc.

I understand people not wanting to 'have' to get a shot but really don't see how it's much different from the other mandatory shots most people get as kids - measles, polio etc.

And freedom of choice...  if a dentist, surgeon, people preparing food etc  decided they didn't want to be forced to wear a mask and / or gloves people would say WTF - and they'd be right to. Freedom of choice doesn't give anyone the right to put others at risk.

They've been whinging on about masks, even attacking people for wearing them.

The point of masks is to minimise the spread of covid, in other words do what you can to not make others sick. I don't see how that's so different to someone in the workplace having to wear protective gear in order to not make others sick. Nobody has a problem with that.

As for getting the vaccine... the point of the vaccines has always been :

1. They make you less contagious and so less likely to infect others.

2. If you get covid you'll be less likely to need hospital care, hospitals being overwhelmed has been the concern since the pandemic started and been an issue in lots of places. Society needs hospitals, without them we're fu**ed.

Are vaccines the ideal solution? No, far from it but then a global pandemic is far from ideal too and vaccines are pretty much the only way we can fight it.

Sometimes we have a force of nature that threatens everyone.

Usually (at least in NZ) the force of nature is a flood, bush fire, earthquake etc and everyone who is able to will be doing whatever they can to fight it and protect the town or at the very least not trying to prevent others from saving the town. Everyone is inconvenienced, nobody wants to be doing it but a flood or fire doesn't care about your feelings.

This time the force of nature is a pandemic. Most of the community are doing all they can to prevent deaths and minimise the effects of the pandemic the same way they would if there was a bushfire or flood. A small minority - who also rely on the hospitals etc - are actively trying to sabotage those efforts.

If this was a bushfire there's a common Kiwi phrase that would almost definitely be used to describe that minority. I won't write it here because people are sensitive but it rhymes with ducking punts.

I saw headlines this week though saying that something like three quarters of Canadians are opposed to them and the majority support them being broken up.

It's probably the same as in NZ. Most people just want to get on with their lives, try to run their businesses, go to work etc and they can't because they're being shut down by the truckwits. Freedom of choice etc etc - as long as you choose what I want you to choose.

And the fact that they're being funded by groups in the US seems *munted* to me too. Interfering in another country's politics just makes me suspicious of their motives and makes me think of missionaries and religious extremists, Russian bots on Facebook, governments who support dictators and organise coups in 3rd world countries.

Lol, they hold what is likely a covid super spreader event, disregard common sense and basic hygeine, have been crapping where they eat, spreading pinkeye and who knows what else among themselves and predictably they're getting sick and some are ending up in hospital.

It gets better though...  they claim it's EMF and radiation machines in parliament building that are making them sick, not the fact that they're spreading covid and walking around in their own poo....some of the nutters there are even making and wearing tin foil hats now...you couldn't make this sh1t up.....

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300527308/wellington-protesters-make-tin-foil-hats-to-protect-them-from-illness

The police at the protest have some memorable quotes too...

"Some officers have had to calm protesters who are demanding verification from police about wild conspiracies that range from Illuminati bunkers under Parliament, microchips, genetically-modified humans, and government brainwashing via electronic currents in the air that have affected the pro-vaccine people.

“It’s sad. A majority of these people are disaffected and a lot need mental health support. They aren’t here for the purpose of this protest, a lot are here because they need to feel like they are part of something,” he says.

“We talk to a lot of them here, and it’s sad to see the state of these people, many are incoherent in their ramblings. Some days it feels like we are managing a mental health facility rather than a protest.”

"The officer described hygiene at the occupation as nothing short of disgusting. He says it has become almost intolerable to be near protesters because the stench is excruciating.

“I swear those portaloos are not only a health hazard, but they are weapons of mass destruction,” he says.

“The heat, mixed with excrement, body odour, and the lack of hygiene is really sickening to be around. I really don’t know how anyone can live there and not be extremely ill. It is probably the worst protest in terms of personal hygiene I have ever smelt.”

I'd add for the last one ... ".. march with yer mouth full of Cool-aid ...". broken heart

Why?

Have a look at the name 'John Mearsheimer' at u-Tube ... He had foreseen today's Uki events 5 years or so ago.

I suggest, you have a proper DD on the guy, i.e. who he is and all .. and as a side note: "His debates and exposes are hosted by all the big names as 'Uni of Chicago', 'Yale', 'Harvard', 'Centre for Independent Studies' and more .."

I really like his take on the whole matter ..., i.e. Russia was forced into it by USA ...

He is also not too much off (IMO!) on other matters, economy and politics in particular. .. I've seen everything by him available at u-Tube.

His take on Russia-is-Bad meme in USA since the end of 2nd WW is good, too.

Cool-Aid: "... some tinny island in Pacific (or some ocean) with 100k residents in total banned business with Russia over the Uki's overtake..." was reported as a major news yesterday on MSM ... gargling a lot of Cool-aid while I LOLOL

All today's events in Uki are on USA and ZATO as its pawn ...

Just look over the Internet on 'Ukraine Russia news' ... u-Tube is full of Cool-aid and all Russia-is-Bad meme ...

I also stand-by yesterday's Chinese stance in UN, i.e. support of Russian reaction in Uki. The only thing it bothers me with Chinese support is "Taiwan will go the same way ...", which I mentioned once here somewhere around 2010. See the thread 'Can RMB replace USD as a Reserve Currency?".

The whole thingy in Uki was provoked by the West 'cause the next bigger down-slope on Economy's front is in the cards, i.e. Cofid scare and all block-downs wasn't enough and long lasting ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrMiSQAGOS4

Cool-aid: "Russia overtook Crimea from Uki in 2014 ...', butT ... you'll never see the fact that Crimea was granted only for management to Uki by Russia in 1964 or so by Brezhnev ...", i.e. Crimea isn't/wasn't ever territory which naturally belonged to Uki. Crimea is a strategic Ruski military outpost with huge naval military base in Sevastopol. Have some research on Uki & Crimea.

Crimea could/would be also a strategic point for ZATO, unless Vladimir Vladimirovich Ras-Putin ....  broken heart

It's a complicated situation, I don't know much about it but I can see how Russia, or any country would have issues with their enemy putting bases on their borders, if you provoke a bear don't be surprised when it bites you. Does it justify invading a country? That's not for me to say but I wouldn't have thought so.

But having empathy for Ukranians in NZ watching their home get invaded and their families bombed doesn't equate to having a mouth full of cool aid.

It took me 2' to scroll to the top and click 'Add comment'.

Casualties and the whole matter in Uki are beyond the tragic.

Let me clarify my reference to Cool-aid matter: "It isn't Russians fault that much, but it's all on the West!" ... but such stance you won't hear or read anywhere on MSM. That's Cool-aid, IMO! It's all about Russian-Bad meme ...

... As I understand, Russia demands total neutrality of Uki, i.e. no NATO membership with its armaments in on the Russians borders, not too much West and EU, either ... and USA & EU won't listen or negotiate. Parts of Uki (Donbass) are also full of Russians who live there since ever and only official language in Uki is Ukrainian .. Imagine that!

Of course, Russians feel threatened ... NATO (US Baker) promised to Russians no-more NATO expansion at USSR/Warsaw pact dissolvement around 1990 .. after that, Baltic states got admitted as a 1st breach of the promise; Then shortly after, Georgia (with Romania, Bulgaria) got in as 2nd breach and now with Uki is the 3rd time of NATO disregards its promise right on the Russian borders. ... and all is done intentionally by the West/USA and its lackeys UK and EU.

I saw some protests against the war in Moscow, 'cause Ukis are like a brothers to Russians, but still Russians military strategic demands considering Uki&NATO are sound, IMO.

The other fact is about the 2nd WW: "Russians had the biggest no. of casualties (over 25 million) among allies in fighting the nazis.." and now their neighbour suddenly has a pro-nazi battalion which is included into regular Uki's army ...

That isn't just a poke-a-bear. It's a planned provocation (which might also be a payback for the Ruski's intervention in Syria) and big conflict here is well in the cards ... IMO.

I agree, it's not all on Russia, they were provoked and probably felt threatened. And yep, there's a complicated history there between Russia and Ukraine which makes things even less black and white..

But I don't think Russia is completely without blame either. When one country tells another who they can or can't be allied to that's getting into sketchy ground IMO. When they decide to invade because they don't like who that country is allied to then that's a very dangerous precedent. I can think of a few places in East Asia wth tense political situations that could be used to justify going to war if Russia's example is seen as being the acceptable solution.

This situation makes me think of the time Marsellus Wallace threw Tony Roccamora out of a window over a foot massage.

If you're online every day supporting actions / inactions that are guaranteed to make the problem bigger and you're supporting the politicians who choose to disregard science and common sense then you're part of the reason we're in this shit situation.

We could take it up with God I suppose, explain to her that while it's common knowledge how viruses and pandemics work and scientists told us from day one what we needed to do and what would happen if didn't, the virus needs to understand that we have our freedoms, which counter any law of nature and furthermore, it's just not fair!!

That one about the Russian vodka ban in USA is funnies ...

Only 1.2% of vodka sold in USA come from Russia, he he.

The biggest exporters of vodka to USA are from EU, LOLOL.

Swedish, Polish, Finnish vodkas are great, much better (IMO) that Russian vodkas.

I also read about the damage to EU and others 'cause of Russian ban from SWIFT ... Chinese have their own paying platform similar/same as SWIFT, which Ruski can and will use instead.

Remember 'toothless sanctions' ... mainly 'cause Russia is under sanctions since 2014 or even longer and they are ready with coffers full of bullion Gold together with Chinese, i.e. Gold chest.

Big upswing on BTC today (around 7% in less than 2h time) 'cause Russian .gov stopped foreign exchange transfers abroad ..., so extra Russian monies went and will flow into BTC and other cryptos hard wallets.

ZeroHedge's front page has some 7 articles among 10, he he ... about sanctions and how sanctions against Russia will backfire to EU and even to USA. Citibank is listed as one of the major US banks with the biggest Russian exposure ...

Russia has a huge reserves of hydrocarbons and they are exporting it, too. (Russian nat. gas at 24% of the entire world's output -no.1; and oil about 11% -no. 8 of the entire world's production).

Think SLOWLY about that! Every country except Arabs imports natural gas and tankers full of oil ...

There's a title at ZeroHedge with warning on danger about new Arab Spring in MENA countries 'cause Ruski&Ukis are the biggest grain and food overall exporters ... there.

Somebody was telling me ZeroHedge is Ruski, LMAO ..., butT ... it's a Madness, overall!

@Stiggs: ... reference to this:

"But I don't think Russia is completely without blame either. When one country tells another who they can or can't be allied to that's getting into sketchy ground IMO."

I understand your democratic stance, but ... Russia was with all satellite states, i.e. Warsaw Pact alliance, one country not too long ago. Many parts of so called independent countries today (Uki, Baltic states, even Romania&Bulgaria ...) are full of Russians. Historically, communists didn't promote western values as 'independent country or area', but many different nations were all mixed, which is maybe difficult to comprehend from far away, but that is a fact. ... and Uki today is not just independent with larger Russian population, but it also acts against all Russian achievements and sacrifices especially ones from the 2nd WW, which nobody can deny were the greatest among all allies at stoping the nazis. For our generation 2nd WW is maybe long past, but it ain't past for the Russians.

Uki or any other country near-by Russia with neo-nazi BS ... it's a direct attack on Russian national pride, i.e. don't forget 25 M Russian casualties in 2nd WW ... out of around 170 M of the total population count from 1939.

Uki is also too friendly with the West, which is another no-no for Ruski ...

Sooner Uki will realize it's just a little pawn in a game against non-compliant countries (Russia, China, ayatollahs, Cuba, Venezuela, N. Horea ...) ...

If Uki soon doesn't come to the negotiating table, I can envision Uki no different than Syrian Aleppo after Russians levelled the whole area ... in 2015.

China will come to the Uki's 'rescue' ... by holding Ruskis back ... and last "mark-my-words"!

Only reasonable way for Uki to uphold it's independence (and other BS they are full off ...) is to remain neutral, i.e. no West and ZATO and then maybe Ruski would leave them alone.

If you compare Russian actions today with USA/ZATO ... interventions and deaths .. in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan ... nobody had been alarmed (and ready to march ... Sorry, I LMAO ...) as much then as MSM is today.

Nobody was even throwing the Kentucky bourbon down the drain ...  , i.e. Western-Cool-aid in Full Force! ...

Yes, I think it's worth for Vlad&ruling gang without a doubt to prevent to have a democracy on their doorsteps, considering that was one nation not too long ago.

The other thing is "Uki serves as a buffer zone on Ruski borders." No sensible person can envision Uki being a ZATO alliance country.

These two (Ruski&Ukis) are like the same nation. There is not that big difference between the two languages. I'd say, these are just a dialects 'cause I think they understand each other. I mean, it isn't such a difference between Ukrainian and Russian as is between English and Swedish or German.

That is a Slavic thingy ... thinking about ex-Yugoslavia, 20M residents country split in between 5 or 6 different nations, independent countries. However, one nation's resident can speak and understand almost entirely all other 5 'different languages'.

Vlad's aim in Uki is to change present status and restoration of pre-2014 (pro-Ruski Yanukovych) status. At Vlad's last posture/treat about 'nukes-deterrence-team on high alert', he warned West Uki is a Russian sphere of influence and everybody else should mind their own business, i.e. stay out of it.

The thingy for Ruski in Uki is simple: "Take it or ...". However, Ukrainians resist with vigour and everybody's opinion is he will have a big load on his chest after Uki's take-over, but he won't, IMO..

I'd say, English reasoning at this crisis or at comprehension of East EU is different, similar as Chinese they understand and interpret English different than English people do.

It isn't Putin or Russians who wants Ukis speak only Ruski, it goes much deeper than that ...

East EU has many countries, where by English language parameters spoken languages aren't different languages, but they are only dialects. Croatian and Serbian language difference is the same as it's between Oz or NZ or American English. Same is at Czech & Slovaks or Russian & Uki. That's just quickly out of my head, but there are more such 'different' countries in East EU and they were all at war at some point because of that. And on the top, all that 'different languages' in E. EU all derive from Slavic ..., so I call it dialects, but that statement of mine could provoke a war in the wrong pub here, he he.

Was listening to US general Petraeus, who was heading the 1st attack on Iraq in 2003. Reporter asked him "... What about your actions there ...?? How was that justified comparable to recent Putin's actions in Uki?" ... as Petraeus was going on on how Russian attack on Uki is unjustified.

Petraeus: "That is/was different ... we have/had to blame Security agencies for the wrong info on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq ..", as "It ain't/wasn't my fault ...!" or in other words half a million of Iraqi casualties just 'cause your intelligence agencies suck ..., but that BS about ricin and other poisonous gas in Iraq was a pretense, made-up story, outright lie to justify USA&UK attack!

Reporter soon came to his rescue with "We have to interrupt Mr. Petraeus now ..."

Big time hypocrisy from the West even when I compare actions and prohibitions, bans and what not of USA, UK and others (which were and are still no existent!) to today's Putin bans and hostilities in the West. That is the only thing West can do and not go to war with Russia.

USA replied today to Putin's threat about "nuclear deterrence team on high alert" with "USA will postpone some special nuclear missile ballistic test ...".

The only reasonable answer against nuclear war is "There are/will be no winners ...!".

Why do you need to reply to Russian's nuclear threat then if everybody understands total annihilation is in the card???? STIPUD politics!

Little, regular people always get shafted ... as all what's going on in Uki is beyond the tragic. As it looks, Aleppo 2.0 is coming their way ...

Let see how this plays out ...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/state-department-official-warns-p...

State Department Official Warns President Xi Will Face "Serious Consequences" If China Helps Moscow Avoid Sanctions

While Russian forces continue to bombard Ukrainian population centers (while an attack on a nuclear power plant last night turned out to be far less destructive than initially reported), American bureaucrats are already looking past the invasion in Ukraine to focus on China and its continuing support for President Vladimir Putin.

To wit, the SCMP reported Friday that State Department counselor Derek Chollet warned that there will be serious consequences for Beijing if it helps Moscow in evading sanctions.

If China tries to help Russia evade sanctions in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, it will face countermeasures, a senior US State Department official said on Thursday, without providing details.

State Department counsellor Derek Chollet said the allied nations that have joined in sanctioning Russia represent a combined 50 per cent of the global economy; China accounts for around 15 per cent.

"China, if it were to seek to evade the sanctions, or somehow dividing the sanctions, they would be vulnerable," he said. "Any country that tries to evade these sanctions will also face the consequences of its actions. I don’t want to speculate with that would be."

Foreign Ministery spokesman Wang Wenbin offered some insight this week when he blamed Washington for being the “culprit” of the situation in Ukraine. Washington “claims to be preventing a war in Europe. Did it accomplish that mission? It claims to be committed to peaceful resolution, but what has it done in that regard, except for providing military aid and enhancing military deterrence?"

US Faces Nuclear Threats From China, Russia As Never Before: US Admiral

Adm. Charles Richard, head of the U.S. Strategic Command, said it has become imperative for the United States to have the capability to defend against Russia and China at the same time.

“Today, we face two nuclear-capable near-peers who have the capability to unilaterally escalate a conflict to any level of violence in any domain worldwide, with any instrument of national power, and that is historically significant,” Richard told the House Armed Services Committee on March 1.

However, Richard told lawmakers that it’s important to keep monitoring China’s development.

“We don’t know the endpoint of where China is going in terms of the capabilities it’s developing and the capacities that it’s developing,” he said.

“While I’m very confident we’re going to wind up with a very good strategy, I think it will need to be a question that we continue to ask ourselves as we see where China goes, as we see where others go. What are the overall capability and capacity that the United States requires in order to execute that strategy against a changing threat.

“We’re going to have to ask that question much more frequently than we have in the past.”

I was thinking more like the US in Afghanistan...  constantly fighting against people who want you gone and who don't give up, and it would be expensive. The US could afford it, Russia's economy is going to hell.

And then there's Finland and Sweden. Russia supposedly invaded Ukraine because they didn't want them joining NATO but their aggression is pushing Finland and Sweden towards wanting to be part of NATO.

So their economy is hurting badly, they're locked out of their foreign reserves, foreign companies are quitting Russia, the sanctions are harsher than expected, Ukraine is much tougher and more determined than they expected  - they might have real issues holding it if/when they take it and they might be pushing other neighbouring countries towards NATO. I don't think you could call that a good result, seems like real tits up potential to me.

Not the best outcome for anybody, except for Vlad. No sanctions or anything else against Ruski will change that. At negotiations with Ukis, for Russians only offer on the table is total Uki's destruction or a bit lighter ...

Other, neighbouring countries will get fcuked only if ZATO and EU doesn't back down and we'll have III-rd WW. Vlad will stop as soon as Ukis come to his demands.

Russians will also submit other neighbouring countries (Finland, Sweden and who else ...) is western Cool-aid-ing and scare tactic, so arms sales and all get into the higher gear! IMO. Remember how Trump-ster wanted to make Krouts to contribute more for ZATO ... and now we have it all!

Vlad doesn't want to restore pre-1990 USSR ... remember, all this was forced upon the Ruski!

Russians aren't afraid of economic damage since they have mama-China (with few -stans, i.e. one should closely watch 'ayatollahs'!) at their side. Also both (Ruski&China) have an extensive bullion Gold reserves, which will/can serve as a cushion in any sort of crisis.

Was reading yesterday Russian banks started to use Chinese UnionPay system since AmEx, Master Card and Visa stopped working in Russia. That's less than 2-days after the AmEx/MC/Visa ban was imposed in Russia ..., i.e. one can almost say Ruski switch to UnionPay happened immediately.

Remember 900 M sanctions 1.55 B ..., i.e. sanctions against Ruski are toothless, but that's the only thingy West can afford for now.

After I wrote above reply, I went to look for titles at Zero, i.e. ZeroHedge is coming to my support with reports on Russian sanctions & how sanctions are boomerang-ing...

Banning Russian oil imports would grind Germany to a halt, minister warns

Germany depends on Russian energy, and will not follow US and UK in banning imports, top diplomat says

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Tuesday that her country would “not be able to move” without Russian oil imports. While the UK and US announced they would cease buying Moscow’s oil, Germany is too reliant to quit.

"A third of our oil imports come from Russia," Baerbock told the video channel of the newspaper Bild. “If we stopped these straight away, then tomorrow we would not be able to move in Germany anymore.”

“We are trying to do everything we can to stop this war,” Baerbock continued, referring to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, before claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently “unstoppable.”

In an appeal with reference to Serbian and Bulgarian media, it is reported that the US has more than 400 bacteriological laboratories around the world, including at least 15 in Ukraine.

There are exclusively American ones, and they are financed at the expense of the US Department of Defence. The laboratories are located in Odessa, Vinnytsia, Uzhgorod, Lvov (three), Kiev (three), Kherson, Ternopol, and near Crimea and Lugansk.

Fine read on how it all started in Uki ... Biden, Nuland and all with very funny, typical ZeroHedge's humour, i.e. toast&jelly image landing/ending,  broken heart...

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2022-03-06/biden-was-personally-involved-...

Biden was Personally Involved in Ukraine's 2014 Coup

Throughout 2012 and most of 2013, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych had been in negotiations with the European Union on the terms of a political/trade agreement involving a sizeable loan, lowering of tariffs, and a goal to “promote gradual convergence on foreign and security matters with the aim of Ukraine's ever-deeper involvement in the European security area” (direct quote from the agreement). Putin has stated, numerous times over several decades, his concerns about Western military forces creeping closer to Russia’s border. The Ukranians asked for $160 billion to offset trade restrictions that Russia would likely implement as a result of the deal. The EU could only offer $828 million. Russia then offered Ukraine a $15 billion loan and to cut Russian natural gas prices by almost a third. Yanukovych canceled negotiations with the EU and accepted Putin’s offer. Considering the Russian loan was nearly 20 times greater than the EU loan and the agreement eliminated the possibility of Russian sanctions while leaving EU relations largely unchanged, this was a rational decision by Yanukovych.

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/xi-tells-macron-scholz-china-opposes-r...

Xi Tells Macron & Scholz China Opposes Russia Sanctions, Warns Crisis "Spinning Out Of Control"

Caught between the West and its growing closeness over the years with Moscow, China is facing a dilemma on Ukraine. On Monday Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that "The China-Russia relationship is valued for its independence." Wang added"We are determined [to keep the relationship] free from interference or discord sown by third parties."

On Tuesday President Xi Jinping held a virtual meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, wherein the Chinese leader urged "maximum restraint" in Ukraine to prevent a humanitarian crisis and said China is "pained to see the flames of war reignited in Europe."

Further Xi warned that a spiraling economic war would result in blowback as sanctions over Russia "will deal a blow to the stability of global finance, energy, transportation and supply chain, dragging down the world economy amid the pandemic, according his words, for which immediate stabilizing efforts must be taken by Europe's leaders.

But crucially, at a moment the West is unanimous in standing with Ukraine - along with much of the world in the wake of the invasion which is now 13 days in - China has till now refused to condemn Russia's action. What's more is that Beijing has also not used the term "invasion" and has vocalized its opposition to the far-reaching sanctions being implemented against Russia.

Putin and Xi were last together during the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, where the two affirmed a "no limits" strategic partnership. More recently there have been reports that Xi and Putin may have secretly coordinated the start of the invasion, with The New York Times a week ago alleging that China requested that Russia hold off on launching the war till after the Olympics.

Despite China increasingly coming under pressure globally and now finding itself in an awkward position regarding Ukraine, it appears to have doubled-down on support for Moscow, after echoing arguments condemning NATO expansion as a threat to Russia's "legitimate security concerns."

Lately Chinese national media has even used Putin's own "denazification" of Kiev language to justify the attack. As one report details of state media's commentary:

Many countries have roundly rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s argument that his attack on Ukraine is needed to achieve the "denazification" of that country. But the argument is alive and well in Chinese state-run media.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned in a televised speech a few days ago that the military operation against Ukraine is aimed at protecting the people who have suffered abuse and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years. For this reason, Russia will seek to demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine," one article on the state-backed site Wen Wei Po read.

.Thus it's now wonder that Xi while opposing the West's sanctions conveyed to his German and French counterparts that they must "play an active role" in settling the Ukraine crisis, but "according to the needs of all parties concerned."

Greenwald Slays 'Fact Checkers' After Nuland's Ukraine Biolab Bombshell

Wednesday, Mar 09, 2022 - 09:20 PM

Self-anointed "fact-checkers” in the U.S. corporate press have spent two weeks mocking as disinformation and a false conspiracy theory the claim that Ukraine has biological weapons labs, either alone or with U.S. support. They never presented any evidence for their ruling — how could they possibly know? and how could they prove the negative? — but nonetheless they invoked their characteristically authoritative, above-it-all tone of self-assurance and self-arrogated right to decree the truth and label such claims false.

Claims that Ukraine currently maintains dangerous biological weapons labs came from Russia as well as China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry this month claimed: "The US has 336 labs in 30 countries under its control, including 26 in Ukraine alone.” The Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that “Russia obtained documents proving that Ukrainian biological laboratories located near Russian borders worked on development of components of biological weapons.” Such assertions deserve the same level of skepticism as U.S. denials: namely, none of it should be believed to be true or false absent evidence. Yet U.S. fact-checkers dutifully and reflexively sided with the U.S. Government to declare such claims "disinformation” and to mock them as QAnon conspiracy theories.

Unfortunately for this propaganda racket masquerading as neutral and high-minded fact-checking, the neocon official long in charge of U.S. policy in Ukraine testified on Monday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and strongly suggested that such claims are, at least in part, true. Yesterday afternoon, Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), hoping to debunk growing claims that there are chemical weapons labs in Ukraine, smugly asked Nuland: “Does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?”

Rubio undoubtedly expected a flat denial by Nuland, thus providing further "proof” that such speculation is dastardly Fake News emanating from the Kremlin, the CCP and QAnon. Instead, Nuland did something completely uncharacteristic for her, for neocons, and for senior U.S. foreign policy officials: for some reason, she told a version of the truth. Her answer visibly stunned Rubio, who — as soon as he realized the damage she was doing to the U.S. messaging campaign by telling the truth — interrupted her and demanded that she instead affirm that if a biological attack were to occur, everyone should be “100% sure” that it was Russia who did it. Grateful for the life raft, Nuland told Rubio he was right.

But Rubio's clean-up act came too late. When asked whether Ukraine possesses “chemical or biological weapons,” Nuland did not deny this: at all. She instead — with palpable pen-twirling discomfort and in halting speech, a glaring contrast to her normally cocky style of speaking in obfuscatory State Department officialese — acknowledged: “uh, Ukraine has, uh, biological research facilities.” Any hope to depict such "facilities” as benign or banal was immediately destroyed by the warning she quickly added: “we are now in fact quite concerned that Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to, uh, gain control of [those labs], so we are working with the Ukrainiahhhns [sic] on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach” — [interruption by Sen. Rubio]:

Nuland's bizarre admission that “Ukraine has biological research facilities” that are dangerous enough to warrant concern that they could fall into Russian hands ironically constituted more decisive evidence of the existence of such programs in Ukraine than what was offered in that same Senate in 2002 and 2003 to corroborate U.S. allegations about Saddam's chemical and biological programs in Iraq. An actual against-interest confession from a top U.S. official under oath is clearly more significant than Colin Powell's holding up some test tube with an unknown substance inside while he points to grainy satellite images that nobody can decipher.

https://www.rt.com/news/551618-bioweapons-programs-us-ukraine/

An explanation must be offered for what was really going on in Ukrainian laboratories working with highly dangerous pathogens

Unless either Ukraine or the US can prove otherwise, the available evidence points to Kiev operating biological laboratories which may have violated the Biological and Toxins Weapons Convention.

Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that “We [Russia] confirm that, during the special military operation in Ukraine, the Kiev regime was found to have been concealing traces of a military biological program implemented with funding from the United States Department of Defense.”

According to Zakharova, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, on February 24 – the first day of the Russian offensive – had ordered all the Ukrainian biological laboratories to “urgently” eradicate the stored reserves of “highly hazardous pathogens of plague, anthrax, rabbit fever, cholera and other lethal diseases.” She said the documentation on the “urgent eradication” of the pathogens was “received from employees of Ukrainian laboratories.”

There might be an innocuous answer out there. But until it is provided, it appears that Russia did in Ukraine what the US was unable to in Iraq – launched an attack on a nation which was in possession of prohibited biological weapons. broken heart

Watch: John Mearsheimer & Ex-CIA Ray McGovern Discuss Why "Ukraine Is Going To Get Wrecked"

A rare must-see panel discussion has been sponsored by Consortium News bringing together geopolitical heavyweights to offer their 'outside-the-establishment norm' perspectives on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the state of play in Europe and among NATO powers.

Presented by the Committee for the Republic in Washington, the discussion features University of Chicago professor and international relations analyst John Mearsheimer, as well as ex-CIA Russia specialist Ray McGovern. It should be noted that McGovern's CIA career spanned 27 years, which in the latter part included serving as the agency's presidential briefer at the White House. WATCH:

... vid on the weblink ...

Also part of the discussion is Jack Matlock, last US ambassador to the Soviet Union, as well as Ted Postol, MIT professor of technology and international security. Additionally, Susan Eisenhower, grand-daughter of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, was part of the panel.

A recently resurfaced lecture that Prof. Mearsheimer gave at the University of Chicago in 2015 has gone viral since the Russian invasion kicked off last month. On YouTube alone, for example, the over hour-long speech has racked up more than 17 million views.

The famous author and political science theorist had predicted at the time: "The West is leading Ukraine down the primrose path and the end result is Ukraine is going to get wrecked." This tragedy for the Ukrainian people is playing out now, with little hope that ongoing rounds of Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks will halt the fighting.

Writing at The American Conservative, columnist Rod Dreher said of his prior predictions: "Mearsheimer Told Us So — In 2014."

Yuan deposits replace dollar and euro in Russian banks

With Russia now officially cut off from both the US dollar and the euro, the state-owned VTB Bank has offered its clientele the opportunity to open Chinese yuan savings accounts that yield a maximum interest rate of 8%. The country’s second-biggest bank has been hit by the Western sanctions aimed at the total financial isolation of Russia over its war in Ukraine.

“In light of the rising dollar and euro exchange rates, many clients are showing interest in investing in other currencies, and the yuan is one of the most affordable and promising options for investing funds,” the bank said in a statement.

Existing customers are reportedly able to open deposits remotely on VTB Online with a minimum amount of 100 yuan ($16). At VTB branches, they can deposit a minimum of 500 yuan.
