But I still prefer to load up on trips back home and use local stuff on absolute emergency. So trust would be a big word.
The quality of basic drugs should be OK. I wouldn't worry if buying from e.g. Kabova or other larger chains, or maybe a hospitals in-house pharmacy.
Beer can also help pain !
I've used it and they do seem to be effective. But watch out for the dosage. In the west we are used to taking 2 tablets every 4 hours or something like that, but the ones I bought here were 1 tablet every 12 hours!
Scandinavian:
it's a very good point, most drugs here have identical active ingredients, but dosages differ, sometimes a lot, and one does not want too much or too little.
I think more small dose pain killers are kind of a placebo anyways. So in my head everything from china is balls and when I take it, nothing happens. Zero relief.
But again, thats probably just me, i dont trust it.
I always stock up from home. I have like 2 years worth hahaha.
When out, you can go to HK, they have normal stuff.
If all else fails, find an import shop. Often you will see little Hong Kong or Korean import shops all over China. Filled with really random stuff like body wash and cookies and not much else. But they often have some drugs.
I've bought it several times, and it has worked. That said I think I took massive dosages, like g and not mg.
I regularly scoff down a few (for my arthritis/gout), and while the ibuprofen doesn't seem to do a lot (perhaps cos it's the 24 hour slow-release version, not the instant), it does seem to have some effect.
I have, however, noticed good effects with the Diclofenac... simlar medicine, similar conditions.
I do find that my homeland brands do seem to have a better effect... but then, I should only use western medicines anyway, cos my body is different to Chinese bodies, so maybe that's why the ibuprofen I buy here isn't as effective!
I usually suffer unpleasant headaches from time to time, so stock up from the UK. Not a fan of Chinese medicine of hospitals.
I bring everything I might need. The only thing I've bought are for sore throats, like our cough drops.
What are the injections that Chinese get at hospitals for headaches? I've never met a Chinese that believes my Tylenol is good or will take one.
