Q: Do you want to know how your pork and vegetables are raised/grown in China?

I've spent a long time traveling the countryside, and have seen the way they raise pigs. Here's how they do it:

The pigs live in the crap-house. Yeah, in the little toilet outhouse, right next to the crapper. No, seriously... in the next room. The pigs spend their entire lives eating... crap and trash. Hello, trichinella or worse! Make sure you cook your meat carefully.

Oh, did I mention the crapper? The crapper doesn't often drain into the ground... no, it takes a chute right out into the field and "fertilizes" your vegetable garden every time you take a dump.

The butcher leaves the chopped up meat and parts laying around in the house, which, in the winter time, collects an unhealthy amount of coal dust and particles, since they use coal to heat the homes.

The butcher never washes his hands. Ever. Not even after going to the bathroom. Neither do those who grow vegetables. Then it goes to the meat market, and they don't wash their hands either. Ever.

If they sell a live pig, they're loaded up into a vehicle where they get the crap beat out of them. No, quite literally. They crap, piss, puke, and bleed everywhere. And they have infected stuff coming out of their bodies.

Enjoy. I know I won't. Will you?

If i've got a bottle of oyster sauce handy. Sure!

Hey, don't judge me too harshly Pogger; it's ugly. It's an ugly, ugly, ugly world. Louis Armstrong was full of s**t. But i'm gonna eat it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't.

What was I thinking? Eating vegetables would protect me from all sort of hygiene issues. Now you say the vegetables are in the same crap like the pig. What else should I do? Well, for some reason, as I saw how dirty people are I have become obsessed with how I eat the vegetables. I clean them carefully then give them a bath of boiling water. Just to kill the germs, maybe the ones that are in my head and/or the ones that are still there   though I don't see them.

One day I made an experiment. It was only out of curiosity. I took one apple. I washed it, carefully. I took a knife and I passed it over the apple the way I shave my face every 2 other days. Yes, I gave the apple a shave with the knife. Well, I was so astonished at what i saw that I couldn't stop saying: "oh my God!" What I could see, on the edge of the blade, was a black  thick line of dirt. I mean dirt like dirt. Even after cleaning the apple under high water pressure, I wouldn't be sure it was clean. I could peel off its skin but I just can't imagine eating apple without its skin.

Anyway, now that you mentioned it Hulk, I will enjoy my salads even more. Thanks buddy!

Hulk, you forgot the parts about the farmers pissing on their crops and using huge amounts of chemical fertilizer, feeding the pigs huge amounts of antibiotics etc. Most of the vegetables are also genetically modified to grow to large tasteless lumps.

In many ways it is great, because even though most Chinese now live in modern buildings, they still eat like they did back in the village.

The crap and urine (human and animal) are just natural fertiliser and have been used by humans for aeons. The Chemical fertilisers growth supplements and antibiotics are much more of a worry, (and also used very widely outside China too), but tbh, for the common person they are almost impossible to either detect or avoid (in China at least) and we've all got to eat.

Make sure you wash all your food carefully before cooking, is the best I can think of, and to quote my old gran, don't worry about things you cannot change.

Eat and be happy for tomorrow we die! (misquoted from someone a bit famous).

luggi:

true, animal crap is used in the west as well. maybe not in the same way though... antibacteria is abused in china though. already too much use of that stuff in the west, but here.... wholly molly^^

By the way, human fertilizers = intestinal parasites. Pretty sure we all have at least one.

In my case, I care a lot about the way they kill their animals. Last time I saw some shops selling chickens without any cuts or a sign of slaughter, I wonder if any foreigner ever wanted to eat a DEAD CHICKEN ! It's easy for vegetables to be rotten and molded in one or two days. Thus I buy my veggies extremely fresh and buy meat which supposed to come from Tibet (I trust the seller I hope it's not Tibetan donkey meat).

I know this is over-punctuality , but I must visit and check every restaurant kitchen I want to eat at and ask few questions to the cooker.
In general, most of restaurants will not wash kitchen tools till they close down. Veggies are sometimes cooked without washing. Suddenly the cooker will disappear to the toilet and come back within seconds to continue his job. Tap water is used for cooking even in the most luxurious restaurants . Meat might be left for few days without freezing.
Why do I care ? Because after few years, parasites will sing the victory song in your stomach and you will experience fast fatigue and sickness as the rest of population.
