Q: Do you work unnecessary overtime?

I leave the office on time every day and rarely work more than 20-30 minutes overtime- however, my Chinese colleagues will always stay much later- at first I was worried about this, but I think I'm really efficient- I get everything done, and don't go home til it's finished. Does your company expect you to work overtime even when there's nothing to do?

Overtime can only mean a few things. One, you have so much to do that you can't finish it within office hours. Two, you have so little work that you stretch it to make it look like you have a lot to do. Or you are so incompetent that you can't finish your allotted share of work. My office people all come from the 3rd lot.

Four: you're an Israeli company managed by sick people requesting all the staff to stay everyday at the office from 8am to 10pm.

Never, and sometime, when I finished something and there is not enough time to do anything useful before the time to leave... I just leave earlier. No point in pretending being busy.  I'm super free about my time, but that's the exception.

there is another reason

the chinese are leaving in a small rented room shared by 5-10 ppl and so they try to spend as much time as they can in the office and use internet.. because they try to save money and not get internet connection in their homes/rooms.

mike695ca:

I totally believe that is a big part of it.  But another reason is that they feel they cant leave until their boss leaves.  They wanna go home too, and are finished everything, but play on qq until the coast is clear.
