Q: Do you/have you used the report button?

Pretty straight-forward question about this forum...

Especially given a) some of the comments/language used, b) the inanity of some of the questions/threads, and c) obvious (and, occasionally, not so obvious) trolling.

As against, a 1-post, named person who objects to comments on the articles page (which, in my mind, is a better post than a whole stack of others I've read, both named and anonymous!)

When people do post their offense at language, abuse, or whatever, everyone says "use the report button"... who takes their own advice?

And, to answer my own question - yes, a few times. For people using abusive language (and not only directed at me). The most recent time was only last week, when some wanker attacked Sorrel with nothing but foul language - ie, no argument, no reasoning, but utter crap!

Shining@ Think we are talking about the same one. I reported but nothing came out of it. I wonder if it works at all.

Why bother?  When my daughter is throwing a fit, I ignore her.  In some cases I think reporting them might actually fuel the fire.

I used it twice.

a well know poster make a very offensive comment late last year, and i know i was not alone in 'reporting abuse'

it resulted in her being banned

the second time was at a poster who, again, was generally abusive to all posters.

for me it is a case of showing a degree of respect to all, not just myself, as engaging with the offender generally adds fuel to the fire.

Cheers guys wink

I think its a neccessary tool, Admin can't read every post. I agree with free speech but not the right to be an offensive sociopath. I complained about Silva and Matty until they were banned. The report button doesn't seem to be working now, nor does Admin seem to be checking.

No, I generally let the BS role off my back. If I open a thread and don't like it, I use the back button. After spending 20 yrs in the Army, it is unlikely most folks can come up with offensive language that I haven't heard or been called before.

I've used it a couple of time where it seemed to me the poster was not just inappropriate but sounded as though there was intent to cause bodily harm.

No. I see it as a form of censorship.

I only ever used it once, on another forum, when a poster identified someone by their real name. That was way outside the t&cs.

One needs to be pretty thick skinned to go online.

I don't think I would ever use it here.

I report exceptionally stupid and vulgar posts, spam, and anything that includes real life information. So, not often.
