Q: Do your old landlords still contact you?

I had a landlord in Qingdao that kept calling and emailing me months and months after I left, usually about how I should move back to Qingdao and do some sort of translation work for him. My last landlord in Beijing has called me numerous times since I moved out asking if I knew anyone who'd be interested in renting his apartment.

I can't complain, both landlords were actually really nice, and didn't screw me out of my security deposit... but I think it's a little bit strange that they keep on contacting me after our contract is up. (Never had this happen back home).

Is this common in China, or are my situations somewhat isolated?

I would guess it's because you are a foreigner and the old landlords want to build up "guan xi" in this way because the landlords would like to believe you could bring benefits to them, such as doing translation work or introducing new foreigners to rent their apartments.

It happens to Chinese people too.If the landlords think the customer is useful or with potentials, then they would like to build up "guan xi" with him.

It can be quiet annoying sometimes. So some people would like to keep their real social status/occupations unsaid when they receive services.

No it's not isolated behaviour at all, i've had numerous landlords pester me endlessly, long after i'd moved out, for sexual favours, photographs of my naked rear, some offering invitations to strange orgiastic meet-ups, the list is endless; one even sent me tickets to see Celine Dion. But it honestly doesn't bother me at all, though I did kindly decline the tickets to see Celine Dion.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
