Q: Does America have it's own version of TCM?

Seems like homoepathy is the exact same as TCM, but without the powdered deer penis.

We went to the doctor's for a checkup, and the nurse was a complete homeopathic psychopath. I checked her Facebook page too, and it's full of anti-vaccination, anti-medicine, anti-science, and anti-hospital garbage. She told my wife that it's okay to co-sleep, "because I did it too, with all my babies!"

All the doctors advised against it, then the nurse told us that it's okay.

So... from what I've seen, homeopathy and TCM are pretty similar... thoughts?

Those people also believe crystals have power and ''new age'' crap, theraputic touch etc. I had a GF, she went through university on a scholarship, should have been smarter, she believed in that crap. She gave me crystal radio as an example. I never told her that needs a battery. Theraputic touch, its not energy you feel but the heat from someone's hand, ya dumb shits. Yes it would be nice to have super powers.

I know a lot of people that put faith in homeopathic meds, but they aren't regulated or studied. How much of this dose does what over time? I'm sure you could OD on garlic.

I want a good Rastafarian doctor, one with good stuff, a snake and a rattle.

I'd believe this guy if he said it was good shit.

Yes there are doctors in the USA that practice what is called Holistic Medicine.  They are called N.D. s, or Naturapathic Doctors.  Before you think this is quackery, these doctors use natural means to treat illnesses that work quite well.  I myself had an ND when I worked in Oregon and my insurance even covered my treatment and doctor's visits.  Look at your insurance coverage and see if they cover these treatments.  Some do.

For example, when I had high cholesterol my doctor gave something called Yed Yeast Rice that worked quite well.

Naturopaths have to go to school and have a permit to practice medicine.  My doctor was no quack as she moonlighted as an Airforce flight nurse.

Before the advent of the modern pharmaceutical industry, how were illnesses treated? With herbs and other natural means. Drug companies take that plant, make it more dangerous to ingest, and raise the price. Why not take the natural stuff- that has been tested and has proved itself through months and years of regular intake.
Even in Germany regular M.D.s prescribe milk thistle to treat liver disease.

TCM, Homeopathy, and whatever exploits two facts of life.

1. The body usually heals by itself

2. People are scared of not getting well thus will have a greater tendency to want to part with their financial assets

Try having an open femur fracture and see what Homeopathy or any alternative treatment can help you with.

BBC's Horizon did in 2002 a wonderful thing about homeopathy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon/2002/homeopathy.shtml

A dude said "I'll give you a million dollars if you show evidence homeopathy works" not even proof.

Scandinavian:

the documentary is also very interesting to watch if you're skeptical about TCM. E.g. do you think a deaf, blind TCM practitioner would get anything from pulse reading. Their finger senses should be more alert, but they can do jack without seeing their patient and hearing what they say.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.  For emergencies western medicine is better.  But for long term chronic diseases naturopathic medicine is better.   Try getting Chron's disease and have your intestines get cut out piece by piece.  Try reading Jordan Rubin's story about his fight with Chron's disease. This next article is what motivates me to stay healthy and stay away from hospitals and their overpriced medicines that are no better than the placebos. I am no sure why you put up American Healthcare as the thing to show there is something worse than TCM ? Is American Healthcare supposed to be particularly good?

I have a friend with Chron's who'd not be alive had it not been for antibiotics, and who is today leading a normal life with the right diet. This is purely modern medicine at play. Don't think my friend would be better off with any alternative treatments.

I'm not a fan of American health care, but it's a hell of a lot better than homeopathy.

In the current case. I'd write a nice letter to the management of the clinic explaining them that you expect to see trained doctors when you go to their establishment. If they insist on having practitioners of medieval sorcery present, you demand to have the staff put through a Monty Pythonesque style which test.

Hulk:

rofl @ medieval sorcery.

Surely American TCM would have belonged to the Red Indian/American Indian/Native American tribes or nations.

Whatever they practiced would be traditional Chinese medicine!

Hulk:

Yeah, Native American medicine is a joke. I used to live on a reservation, and the amount of mind-numbing ignorance is astounding. I don't know how it's possible for so many people to be so ignorant, but it is.

isn't NAM also based on thousands of years of tradition. It's the age not the effectiveness that is what makes TCM so awesome.
