Q: Does anybody pay for mandatory Insurance at the workplace?

Is there a rule, employer (school) must purchase Insurance, or employee must pay for the insurance cost? I've never been ill, or even visited the Hospital during the Contract.

I have an insurance, but as I see from my last pay, I got deducted some EDIT: '1500 Rmb' for something. I'm not sure, why I got 'short' pay, but I can't think of anything else than Insurance cost.

School's rep. told me in January, 'School will pay for an insurance for me', and as I saw from the papers I had to sign, school will get refunded for all cost at the end of the Contract.

I was always thinking, school must pay for it, but here my school wants me to comply by the school's rules for the other (Chinese) employees.

Example: 'they demand real flight ticket in order to refund cost at the end of the Contract'. However, Contract doesn't state, I must show real ticket, but just 'I will receive return flight refund at the end of the Contract'.

Is anybody familiar with that?

RE: flights - again, BS! As you said, nothing in the contract about it... Use the 'SAFEA' word and see if they change their mind. These days, I ask for the name and phone number of the chief finance person, and tell them I'm passing it onto SAFEA, so they can call them... Smile .

(you will need to give them some sort of evidence/proof though)

icnif77:

I told them, I'll just fly to EU and back, if they insist on the proof. What is the difference to them?

Contract state, they'll refund it, so they can show tax-man contract and get 7k Rmb deduction. Tax-man won't ask for the flight ticket.

They know only (local) SAFEA, which gave us FEC. Probably nobody speaks English there. Two Chinese English teachers approached me last week, and offered any help I need with their ph. no.

Help? Did they expect, I'll ask: 'Can you please talk to SAFEA for me in Chinese?'

Talking about Non-naive English teacher here. I'll dial different no.

I want to finish with RP extension next week, and then call to Gov.

I did not pay for any insurance rather the employer has got one for me. Usually receive greeting emails from them on various occasions.

15K for a year/month? Not sure what sort of insurance is that?  Perhaps you should be asking clearly since 15K is not something they can rip you off in the name of insurance.

icnif77:

Not a month. EDIT: '1.5k this month' only. I got some deductions last month, but lower than '500 Rmb' level.

I assume, it's for all Insurance cost school paid during the contract. Most of the time, I'm thinking schools just pretend they're really paying, but they don't, similar as deducted tax.

I'll ask for all receipts for deductions next week, before I dial Gov.

I guess, they just want to get even, because I asked them for 'return flight' refund. However, I'm their first FT, and they can play 'I didn't know', till somebody on the top (Gov.) doesn't convince them they are wrong.

No. I believe it's a requirement of the school to pay for the insurance. Though you're probably right - it doesn't get paid.

You may (but probably won't) recall that a couple of years ago, I had a tax issue, where I knew it wasn't paid. So I went to the local tax office, and requested to get a copy of my records. They had none.under my passport number, and I was requested to get the 'unique number' for my tax records from the finance dept. One phonecall (by my Chinese friend) and the guy at the other end was VERY angry that I had gone to the tax dept, instead of going to him. When I did go to him, he wanted to only give me a letter saying how much had been paid... I said "not good enough - need REAL tax receipts"..

Finally, 2 weeks later, I got them... payments dated only the week before!

Ie, I caught him out, and he had to pay the tax .. (or, he got himself a nice copy of an official Tax Dept receipt form!!)

500/month does not equal 15K unless it's been over 2 years...!

icnif77:

I edited: it's 1500 Rmb deduction this month (not 15k).

I'll ask for the School's official receipts of all deductions of my salary since Sept, and all salaries deposited. I assume, I won't get it. SAFEA should get it, if I won't be successful.

I got Bank statements about deposits and withdrawals, however (after 2h in the Bank today) they can give me only statements  for the last 6m.

I miss only deposit of 1st salary in September last year.

They shorten me for some 20k according to the Contract + return flight. That's more than 50g Gold bullion in HK.

Eh I'm not sure what you are talking about. Mr I know I so much about visa requirements and the like but then I end up paying insurance 1500 for a month. What a Burke. I'm not sure what you're trying to say above. I know somebody who can help you write more clearly, if you want to improve your English.

You should know better, read the contract carefully. Make sure all the details are included in the contract.

You should know by now that non-natives are more likely to get screwed so you have to extra vigilant.

Dude you give great advice to people getting screwed you of all people should know Chinese people are liars and if it is not in the contract they will not do it.

icnif77:

Man, the story is long: Contract state 'refund of return flight home at the expiration of the Contract'.

As we signed Contract last Sep., school wasn't able to extend RP (authorisation for FT hire in progress), and I had to exit China, and return home. I arrived to the School with 30-days RP extension.

Rep said: 'we'll purchase return ticket for you....and so on', what they did.

Now, at re-sign of the new Contract (2m earlier), I asked for the flight refund (by the old Contract). Rep.: 'we gave you refund already in Jan.!'

I'm having renewal of RP by this Wednesday, then I'll tell more.

In short, it's not Native or Non, it's how Chinese are doing (dishonest) business. It could happened to anybody. They think, they are negotiating. They don't consider that as 'cheating'.

My stance: 'school is responsible for all cost for new Z, because they weren't entitled to sign Contract with FT on valid RP.'

That's what I got (and 3 salaries, while I was waiting for Z docs.).

Now, they owe me flight refund by the Contract. My problem with all this manure is: 'it kills my wish to teach!'. How don't they understand that?
