Q: Does anybody watch NBA?

I used to watch NBA a lot but not anymore since YaoMing retired. But I still support some teams like The Rockets, the Lakers and some wonderful players like Wade,James,Paul,Jeremy Lin and Kobe( I have heard that his personality sucks ).

Believe it or not,I have just watched NBA a few times this year and Today I watched the game between The Rockets and Trail Blazers,The two teams fought hard but drew 81 to 81,like 0 to 0 , and needed to have an overtime.

In the end,The Rockets lost .Jeremy Lin did a good job tho.

Do you think Jeremy Lin can replace YaoMing one day? I know he's AN AMERICAN CHINESE..

Wait, yes they play different positions, can not compare to each other. so,what I really mean is ,Does Jeremy Lin can be as famous as Yaoming or even More famous in China or in the world? you know, everyone in China knows Yaoming, even my grandma LOL

I watch on CCTV5.

Lin is good, no doubt, but YaoMing was a center, and Lin is a guard/point guard so I don't think Lin can replace Yao. Be that as it may, Lin is a darn good player and the Rockets look pretty good this year.

Yes, Kobe is a jerk.

maggiegirly:

I watch on CCTV 5 too.

Yes,you are right, they play different positions,Can not compare to each other, what I really mean,Does Lin can be as famous as Yao? or even more famous than Yao.

You know, everyone in China knows Yao,even my grandma LOL.

Yes,Kobe is a jerk, that explains why his wife dumped him.smiley

Haha yes YaoMing is famous. OK, can Lin be more famous? Yes, if he wins a title or plays at a very high level for many years I think his fame could surpass that of Yao.

Who knows?

They tied 0 to 0?

I'm sorry but I can't let that pass. Please explain.

maggiegirly:

I mean 81 to 81,like 0 to 0 ,that's my understanding, and I did not expect that too.the rockets were still ahead in the last 3 mins.but things were changed suddenly. and needed to have an overtime, but unfortunately, the rockets were not so ready.so they lost,85:95

I used to but the team I follow is rebuilding so I haven't been paying as close of attention. Honestly, thought, the direction the league has taken in the past few years doesn't really interest me as much. Every couple of years the refs change the way that they call games, especially in regards to how much leeway they are willing to give the stars. You'll either see a lot of defense and a half court offenses, like how the spurs or pistons used play in the mid 2000s,  or you'll see it tilted more towards athleticism, as it is now or as it was during the early to mid 1990s. It's a different style of play, but I'm just not that into watching two or three guys ball on each other the whole game while everyone else just watches.

I don't watch NBA games anymore, mainly because I don't own a tv (tragic, I know), but also because I just don't get the "NBA feel" when I listen to the Chinese commentators ("haoqiu! haoqiu! waaa, piaoliang!").

I get my daily dose of NBA by reading http://espn.go.com/nba/ and the lakers blog. I also have an app called ScoreMobile and that's how I follow game scores live.

I do miss the seeing those break your ankle cross-overs by Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and John Wall. Also those crazy Blake Griffin dunks. That guy is not from this planet...

And James? Dang... He's the human highlight reel! Lots of people see him as being in the same class as Jordan, some think he might even surpass Jordan as the greatest player of all time.

As for Jeremy Lin, I haven't watched him play yet. I started paying more attention to him the day he scored 38 points (!!!) against the Lakers. After and during Linsanity I saw more than a few magazine covers of him.

He's Chinese and he's a successful NBA player, that's a good way to reach celebrity status in China. I think he'll eventually be as well-known as Yao.

debbie.luo:

Sorry, my bad, Lin is an American. But the way you see him being advertised here, they just give a reference to that and say immediately that his parents are Chinese (though from Taiwan) and he is (thus) Chinese.

Or they say he's an American Born Chinese and emphasize the Chinese part.

Well, Jeremy Lin is American, Yao Ming is Chinese, so I don't see him being Yao Ming's replacement. There will be an up and coming young player from China soon enough though.

maggiegirly:

Yes,Lin is American Chinese as I said above.

But it's good to see an Asian face in NBA,not just American faces and European faces. People need variety.

Actually, a big part of understanding the US is understanding that Jeremy Lin's face is an American face.

nevermind:

Lin is American, hence his face is American. There's no "Chinese-American" in the sense you mean it.

I don't go around saying I'm Irish-Canadian, cause I am a Canadian, just as Lin is an American.

I do watch basketball sometimes but that's the type of sport that is better to play than watch.

woody:

So you play. Tell us about yourself. Are you a playmaker, a wing or an inside post man? What are the strengths of your game? Tell me a few of your favourite moves and describe some of the drills you did when you learned to play. Put it into your own words as I will aeasily recognise a cut and paste job. Tell me a few ways to defend an onball? Or you can just continue with your bullshit.

I have followed the NBA off and on for close to 40 years. Grew up with the game in Australia and played and coached for a similar time. watch just about every game in the local pro league in Australia and while it is a few steps down it holds my interest more because it is based on team play and almost every game is played at close to max intensity.

I only really get into the NBA now when the playoffs come around as the players coast through a lot of regular season games and the NBA rules are designed to highlight individual stars not team play.

As far as Lin goes he is a good player but gets a lot of his attention because he is Asian by ethnicity. Sort of like being the fastest white sprinter in the world.

sweety you clearly do not understand basketball, drew a 0 to 0 tie? and you need to understand sth about Lin. his parents are from taiwan. and he was born i n america. america is a country where we are trying not to be racist. so he has full rights as an american citizen. he is not seen as a "foreigner" i'm pretty sure he would rather keep his american citizenship . you say chinese american, does he hold duel citizenship? could he play for the chinese national team? the answer to both is hell no. he is going to play nice with china so he can maintain his marketability in china. he will be the replacement to yao only in the hearts of chinese people who ignore reality (he is not chinese, he is Taiwanese, taiwan is an independent country!) if he wasn't a famous b ball player, he would be another "chinese looking" foreigner that would be heavily discriminated against in china (even more so than blacks)

maggiegirly:

Thanks for pointing out that I don't understand Basketball because I made a small language mistake.that's lame,Sorry

BTW,I have been watching NBA since Yaoming Joined the rockets.

You should know that Taiwan is an administrative region of China,Not a country  and I never said Lin was Chinese.

Chinese are happy to celebrate his Chinese heritage, that's all.

This doesn't need to be a race thing, but it is a cultural thing.

maggie: have you met anyone from taiwan? have you told them that taiwan is an administrative region of china? they would be shock. hahaha

about the drew 0 0 tie, i was messing with you the mistake was cute.

getting back to taiwan, there are agreements that can be pointed to that show HK is a special admin region and macao. but what agreement did taiwan make with china? why did china get upset because in the olympics uk had taiwans flag up? why did the taiwanese get pissed when it was taken down?china should learn that something not belong to you simply because you say so. like i said talk to a taiwanese person. or better yet go online and read their blogs or comments to articles. i remember how pissed they were when the us didn't sell them the weapons. oh and by the way, why does taiwan have their own military? why do they have an agreement for the us to protect them?
