Q: Does anyone else feel awkward speaking Chinese to foreigners in China?

I was recently with a group of people, among them Chinese and Europeans. Since the Chinese were in the majority and couldn't speak English we all spoke in Chinese. This was fine, but later I found myself trying to say something to a fellow European in bad Chinese and it just felt strange, not natural you know?

I wish I had people to speak Chinese with who would be patient enough for me to learn.  At my school the policy is English only.  I can get myself around but I cannot have real conversations with people.  Even with my Chinese friends, I always end up speaking English.

I think once one's Chinese hits a certain level is just gets more and more natural no matter who you speak it to. Although the process before then is quite awkward and at sometimes grueling indeed.
