I'm thinking of getting a pet, has anyone done it here?
Probably a kitten... not sure where to get them though.
Get some tropical fish and invite me over
DrMonkey:
They tend to avoid fish, because they believe over-fishing is bad, and farmed fish worse.
We have 2 cats (Udin and Venezia) and 1 dog (Barbie).
Barbie is a mixed poodle breed. My wife found her when she was a puppy, almost dead, on the side of the road. Despite the fact that I don't like dogs, I love her. She's a very intelligent dog.
And for Udin and Venezia, we found them also almost dead in a bush in our community. They did not even had the eyes open yet, but we managed to save them too.
We have a baby potbellied pig. Still potty training her.
xinyuren:
no. she's our family pet. But her name is Kou Rou. So you can call her Bacon.
adminanswer:
That is so cool! How big is she? Is she like a micropig?
xinyuren:
She is very small now, just a baby. She is a micropig, about 18 inches? Fat. I take her out to walk in the morning so she can play in the dirt.
TedDBayer:
Pot bellied pigs were once popular at home and expensive, not now and they get big if you feed them. I've always wanted a cow.
xinyuren:
She is small now but she will grow to the size of a very large dog. I had one when i was living in the States. I have pictures on my qq page.
We have a dog. I am think of getting some tropical fish but I won't invite the admin round as I suspect he will eat them.
We have a dog. There are tens of wild cats living outside, at least 2 sets of kittens, I can see once in a while a kitten goes missing, I guess people take them for pets.
Our local market also has some kittens, there is a fruits stand that has a guard dog that has failed to keep the cats away, so kittens playing around and pissing on the fruit. Cute but disgusting.
Whatever pet you get, make sure to get a vet to check it. E.g. a wild cat would at minimum have lice. There are probably a couple of vaccinations recommended for cats.
My GF had a Collie, it disappeared and even she was not able to get an answer as how, you have to watch your pets in China. I don't let my cats out of the house at home, I would never let a pet cat go outside in China, maybe you could train it to use a squat toilet. I have never seen a Chinese cat that did not have a chronic respiratory condtion, dirty nose, this is what vacinations should prevent.
I've seen street markets for puppies and met many people that breed dogs, none of which I felt actually knew anything about breeding pedigree dogs, it should not be done for money, but to raise the best example, thats why there are shows.
I want to get a bird but I don't think my gf would be happy.
xunliang:
The only issue I have is that they live for over 10 years. And I'm not going to be here in 10 years. I'm not sure how easy it is to transport a bird home....so....Otherwise I would get one tomorrow. I love cats and dogs, I grew up with them, and I'm sure I'll get when I move back home.
xunliang:
Apparently you can. I looked into it and I think you can even take them into the cabin with you. Obviously the paper work is not easy and I don't want to risk it just to get turned away by someone having a bad day at the office.
I have a dog (Casper) - has been the light of my life ever since we got him
If you are in Beijing, you can try to adopt from http://lingyangxiaopu.com/
If you do get a dog, please remember that saving a dog won't change the world.
But for the dog, the world changes forever
