Q: Does anyone on here know
anyone working at a school outside of China? My principal (Public HS) just asked me to help him meet/get in contact with schools outside of China. He is a good guy, so I said that I would. Worse than that because I wanted to seem capable, I kinda said that I knew a couple of people I could contact. But really, I don't. I didn't work in education in the States, I mean it's not really my field, just something I started doing in Asia so I could stay over here a while. Anyway, do any of you guys know anyone who / any school that would like to liaise with a Public High School up here in NE China?

It sounds to me like your boss has this half formed idea of co-operating with a foreign school because it sounds impressive when he talks about it but doesn't have any idea how either side could be of use to the other or how to go about it so he's hoping you'll just figure everything out for him and all he needs to do is sign off on it and take credit for it.

Sounds about like it. He's done other half-baked 'English' ideas before, and I imagine that this is just another one. Something he can ramble on about to his next-higher-up. He seems a good guy though and pretty darn harmless. Not like some language mill goon trying to con a few bucks.

if he wants to send rich kids to Canada for a home stay program and make a little money on the deal, the Abbotsford School District in British Columbia has programs in about six provinces, charges the kids 800 a month for the home stay and 12000 a year for the tuition in Canada. Since they graduate from a Canadian High School, they dont need the IELTS or the SAT and go straight to university without an English test. He could have some company do the work like mine and lose some of his money, but he could contact the ESL department in Abbotsford directly and they will set up the whole thing for him. The Canadians love taking a foreigners money to make their schools better and build up the infrastructure with out taxing the hell out of their citizens, no more than they already are anyway.

Almost forgot, Abbotsford has been doing this a long time and gets students from India, China, Columbia, South Korea and Japan, so they do know what they are doing. i know they get about 60 students from us in Shandong every year and a 100 in Cheng Du, not sure about the other areas, but the Canadian ESL coordinator spends half a year travelling and teaching the foreign teachers in the different countries how to prepare the students to come for their last year or two of high school in Canada. The irony is the Canadians complain about the Chinese running up the house prices and get even by keeping a Chinese student in the house and feed them to pick up an extra 800 a month to pay their mortgage, nice way to get some parity back.

thx Mace,,,, I'm definitely going to bring this to his attention. I think this is probably what he is thinking about trying to get going. Sending HS kids from this school abroad.

Liaise for what? I am working in Russia at the moment at two Schools. They're both looking for an English teachers, Native English teachers, but I am not sure about liaise.
Russian Schools pay for English teaching is way lower than at Chinese Schools.
I can get you contact with both Schools in Krasnodar, however I am not sure why your guy wants to liaise except to offer higher pay to working FTs.
I am the only FT working at both Schools here. I know few more Non-native English teachers (Pakistan&India) in the city.
There are another two Schools in my city both run by an American English teacher.
thx 77,,, truth is I don't know what he is on about, wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't know either. Might've just been him wanting to try to talk to me and sound like he was on about some professional topic. We communicate through the Head Teacher of the English Department. Senor Principal cannot speak two words of English, and I'm not much more adept when it comes to putonghua. Anyway, if I can mention you and your school as a contact I will look like I have done what I was supposed to do. Couldn't be any harm in it, this is a government public HS, not a language mill.

I guess, I might be a bit academical, also. 
They have three or more centers in the city and no Native English teacher is working presently. Their job offer is out and ... pay on offer for Native English teacher is around US$ 1000 a month, but required hours/classes aren't listed. No other perks!
I'd love to work in Russia! Note that I am one of the few nerds in the world who has seen both Mao & Lenin !! haha :p
and even though Russkiya may be Cold,, Russian girls are H o t !

These joints in my city are all Training mills. I am quite new in the city, but after I return after this visa run, I will have full time job and I will look at Public Schools in the city for part-time gig.
I didn't see any adverts of Russian Public Schools out. Russian English teachers (with English teaching degree) are working there and Training mills are open for special English edu. as 'teaching proper pronunciation', 'preparing for studying in Native English countries and similar ....

I gotta say Russia is one country that has never appealed to me. Had the chance to visit once and just wasn't interested, I went to Thailand again instead.
It's fucking cold, from what I've seen on youtube and tv it looks just as bleak as any poor Chinese city and the Russians I've come across always seem aggressive and pissed off at anyone not Russian. Or maybe I just keep meeting the arseholes and not the decent dudes.

Yeah, Russian adults come out as a bit high, but otherwise I am an English teacher. I guess, reactions from residents toward English teachers are all the same anywhere you go.
I've got contacts in the local education authority in Northumberland, England. I was looking to do some tours on my home turf and the connections were for the educational tours we were going to offer.

cool. mind if I mention you in passing? nothing concrete,,, just something like 'I know a teacher who has contacts with the Northumberland Education Authority. He may be able to pass our school address on to them.' Just something very vague....
