I want, butt..I don't! I love working in the Kindergartens.

First, try to make them like you! You cannot have successful Kindergarten teaching, if the kids don't like you.

With 2 - 4 Y olds, they will just 'follow you'. Anything you say to them. After you say English (or Chinese) word for the first time, they will just repeat it after you! So, anything you'll do with them, 'they will learn on their own way'.

Ask Kindergarten for teaching material (flash cards), first.

If Kindergarten doesn't have anything, look on the Internet. Google: 'Kindergarten English teaching in China', or something similar.

Here is very useful web link of British Council, when you teach little ones:

Number 1: Come down to their level! Physically I mean. The kids are usually sitting on their little plastic chairs and a foreigner standing over them, tall and unusual looking, will be a fearsome sight. Either kneel down or grab one of the kid-sized chairs and sit down.

Number 2: As icnif77 said - get them to like you... so make them laugh. The chair can be a prop and falling off it 5 or 6 times as you try to sit down will have them in fits of laughter.

The kindergarten will more than likely have flash cards as part of a teaching program they have purchased. They should also have a teaching schedule showing what each week's lesson will contain. Learn the songs if possible and go crazy with accompanying actions. A lot of the time you can invent as you go along. Once the kids love you and will follow you and you have them in the palm of your hand (so to speak) you will find some success teaching them. Good luck!

icnif77:

You must have same chair as kids. And your name on it. I usually make TA stick my name on the free bed, too.

I'll give you a decent website although I don't like the flash cards on this website it does help you get a feel what teaching in a foreign country is like. Genkienglish.com   It's ok they do have games, songs that they created and they seem to come up with new ideas every week. Plus you can sign up and get that sent directly to your email. There are several other websites like this, but there is one for you!
