Q: Does anyone know how I can learn to play the guqin in central Chongqing?

I'm moving to China to teach ESL in central Chongqing. I will probably also be starting a choir there. My certification is in music education. The guqin has been one of my favorite instruments for years, and I would love to learn how to play it while I am there, but I'm really not sure how to go about doing so. Does anyone have any idea where I might go or whom I might contact?

If I were you, once in Chongqing go to a music store and inquire about purchasing one and also lessons to learn how to play it.  I am sure they will know where to send you.

You can also spread the word in your school that you wish to learn to play the gugin, maybe one of the students will know or their parents or grandparents.

and if the above does not work, inquire at which parrk people play musical instruments, and visit it looking for a person playing the gugin.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
