Q: Does anyone know how to use the ICBC keypad thing for online purchases??
They handed me the damn thing and I can't figure it out for the life of me......What do I do with this thing?!

Isn't it only for transfers ?
E.g. if you use Taobao, you would have an account on Taobao that you would first transfer money to, using the "thing"
It basically just needs to be connected to your computer when you do transfers. It requires some software installed that makes my spyware scanner unhappy, thus we have a designated laptop for using the ICBC crap.
Bank of China doesn't have such a solution, they just have a dongle that shows you a new key when needed, and then the internet bank works "as normal". If I needed to use my ICBC account a lot for transfers and such, I would close the account and open a new one in a bank that has an actually usable solution.
Did you try ICBCs phone app ? Since you cannot connect a dongle to your phone, it must be free of such crap.
They have computers in the bigger branches, go to one and have them walk you through the process.
Just step into the Bank, and ask them to do it for you/show you. I usually do that in CMB, and they are always happy to help me.
CMB USB works only on Windows OS, which my MAC doesn't use

ICBC has five (!!!!!) models of usb keys available.
The latest one involves putting the actual key into a docking unit then connecting it to your usb port.
Once properly inserted (smoke a cigarette) you'll see the christmas tree light up. To perform a transaction, you'll have two windows open...the transaction window and the purchase window.
In the transaction window, you input the vendor's info and your long password (not your bank card password).
In the purchase window, you input the amounts and choose your account type.
You will have to push the 'OK' button on the usb key when prompted. Everything should be tickety-boo if there's no problem with your account or the receiving person's account.
ICBC keypad is the hardest thing to deal with. As a local Chinese, I used to have a ICBC keypad, but it was so hard for me to understand how to use it. So I switched my bank card to China Merchants Bank, and boom~ so easy to buy stuffs on internet.
