60 is supposed to be the cutoff across China, especially for new visas. There are much older teachers around, but they are usually cases involving visa renewal and not new issues.

Having worked in an agency recruiting English teachers in Tianjin I can tell you Sinobear is correct. 60 is supposed to be the cut off age. Although I was told not to recruit anyone over 50. All companies have different maximum ages that they find acceptable. I am sure if you are over 50 you can still find a job though. My company is a bit weird when it comes to recruitment.

Yup, it is 60. If your school or company has Guanxi, they can probably get you up to 65 before they start getting some serious heat. 

 

I know someone who got away with with for a while and then she had to leave.
