Q: Does anything surprise you anymore?

Friends visiting me are always shocked by everything, spitting, split pants, number of people, crazy DIY tuk tuk car things... but i don't even see things as weird any more... does anything in China still shock you, after living here for a while?

In 'my world' shocks rarely occur, so I mostly laugh in China. It's enjoyable laugh all the time!

hunana:

that's my reaction too! I used to be appalled, now i just laugh wink

Actually my shorts split yesterday, that did surprise me. My favorite pair, bought many many years ago at a factory outlet near Frankfurt.

Yeah, my senses are also getting dulled to Chinese antics. It feels like being a teacher, and becoming oblivious to the noise the kids make in the playground at lunch break.

I used to always change when just going outside for a minute in public.....now I look at the wife and, without saying anything, I get an OK......... these people are nuts to accept my sort of bare balls down at the mail box, of this classy place... Noble community adorned by Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Strauss...  and  flaunting my balls. They walk around in stupid morning clothes, so I do to.   It really is not a problem...  why should it be?

"If you got them, flaunt them" as they say.

After being here for eight years, I can safely say...

China still shocks the hell out of me. People do stuff here that I never thought humans would or could do...

Maybe I should sniff nail polish (I mean cheap bai jiu) and bang my head against the wall until my mind follows a similar path of logic (or lack thereof) .

chances are the wall will crumble leaving you homeless

nope.  just read how many people still live in caves in china. 30 million?.  explains everything.  caveman acts as caveman acts ('cept this is no act).

Stiggs:

but it shouldn't be taken as a bad thing; maybe that is a better way to live than it would seem at first thought.

There are fewer and fewer things that shock me, but more and more things that make me disappointed. For example the recent stabbings in China.

I was suprised today. I was walking along and a woman helping an old lady along looked back and saw that they would be in the way. So she moved to the side and let me and some friends past. I was amazed. Someone considered someone else a stranger and foreigner too.
