Q: Does China have any seven star hotels?

And by seven stars I mean seven international stars, not "Chinese standard" ones.

One was being built in Sanya similar in style to the one in Dubai. Apparently the project is lacking funding at the moment

7 stars does not exist. 5 stars is maximum.

The one in Dubai just call themselves 7 star compared to normal 5 star. They are saying they are the most luxurious hotel in the world (which I believe)!

I have stayed in 3 star hotels in US that are nicer than 5 star hotels in China. It's cheap to ask a guy to paint an extra star on your sign.

If you are interested in staying in a luxurious hotel (actual good quality) for a decent price I would suggest looking at Southeast Asian cities; Bangkok, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, Chiang Mai

If they had a 10 star hotel it would still suffer immensely via poor customer service. You can lead a horse to water.......

I stayed at some 5 stars, the Empire in Beijing was really nice, thought the room was small, can't remember where I stayed in Xian, but it was nice. I stayed at a 5 star in Bangkok and the room wasn't that nice but big and a 4 star in Hong Kong that was nice, but a really small small room.

I don't really care where I stay as long as it's clean and the bed is Ok, they all look the same in the dark.

Scandinavian:

when it comes to hotels, Hong Kong is so far from the mainland. Hotels in Hong Kong are completely up to international standard, the service is outstanding and if it says international breakfast there is both dim sum and egg/bacon (etc) of course staying at the Grand Hyatt on the island does come at a price

first I ever heard of a seven star hotel. The Ritz Carlton is a five and they are about the best. Also Clarriges in London is a five star and it is the touted as the best hotel in the world. But of cause the oil rich countries with their visionaries, as they call them might spend a few billion on a hotel. It is easy to be a visionary when you have a pit full of money.Franck3

It's a definite NO! The closest bet would probably be the Hilton HOtel. However the Hilton hotel I've seen here is not really in a good area. So as far as location alone it wouldn't meet the 7 star level.

Chinese make it up as they go along, as far as I know the idea of a seven star hotel does not exist outside of China. I always understood the star system worked partly on the services provided, on this alone they fail miserably. I stayed at a four star in Harbin last month that said it catered for foreign visitors, what they meant was they would let foreign visitors stay there. Breakfast was pretty poor, the same old stuff every day, no coffee machine, no tourist literature, no in room safe for valuables, they could not, or would not, get us a taxi when we booked out. It was not the worst I have been in  in China but it makes me laugh when I see so many hotels called "****International hotel". They do not have a clue how to run an international hotel, like everything else here they supply the minimum they can get away with and think that just because the Chinese accept it they are running a good business.

I stayed in what is supposedly a 6-star hotel a couple times in Ningbo (Nanyuan Hotel).  Honestly, it didn't seem any better than the local Westin or Crowne Plaza Hotels, which were both about half the price!  But I'm told the Nanyuan is favorite of the government types, and have a strong hunch the KTV across the road is a favorite of theirs as well smiley

A problem with the international star rating system is that it does not put any value in in-hotel KTVs and prostitution services as many of the "classic" Chinese hotels have. So by our narrow minded western standard, we cannot properly evaluate the star ratings of hotels in this country.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
