It is done in Singapore among other places. Is it done in China and if so is it common knowledge or done without public awareness.

They are starting to do it here too. Recently there was an article that showed a province mayor drinking from a bottle that was supposedly filled with water recycled from liquid waste.
do you really want to trust the people here to do that without trying to cut corners
By "recycle" you mean just pump back into the water supply that they pump from.... well it's one of those things that you just assume yes to, and have a pleasant surprise if it is ever actually proven untrue.
I think in Changsha it is common practice to pump water straight from the Xiang Jiang. However, with me, it is common practice to boil water before I drink it, but showering is a completely different matter! Yikes!!!
I thought they'd been doing it for years, and bottling it in greenish coloured glass bottles with "píjiǔ " or 啤酒 on the label... The recycling isn't that effective, as it still tastes pretty much the same as the original input...
I remember when Queensland was going to introduce it, and the premier was shown skulling from a bottle... too bad there was only a mere 10ml or so left in the bottle.. really convincing!!!
