Q: Does diaper changing rooms exist in China?
In Europe they do, and in Scandinavia you would hear a public outcry if e.g. shopping centers did not provide such facilities. I was recently in a shopping center in Sweden. Apart from the fact that the men's room had a nice sofa, was flawlessly cleaned there was of course the womens room, but also a door with a sign with a pram. In here, the lighting is dimmed, it was very quiet, carpets on the floor. Comfort chairs for women to sit and breastfeed, table surfaces to do diaper changes etc. All very clean and very inviting. Does the Chinese parents actually ever get an alternative to just holding their kid over a garbage can ?

Sweden is from another planet and so germany, thats why chinese call us aliens...

but even in Europes version of China, Italy, the general public is aware that children has stuff coming out of them and this needs to be handled without much ado
I didn't realize Chinese toddlers wore diapers. I thought they just did what they needed to do on the floor.
A lot of the big shopping centers and malls here in Shenzhen have them, though finding them can be a different story, and found several with no hand washing facilities inside, just a bench to change the kid and a mirror, but also seen nicer ones.

if they are not clean and have running water, then it is just a room really. for it to work it must be up to a certain basic standard.

Yes like I mentioned, I have seen some nicer ones, table, mirror, soap, paper towels, seats and a blow dryer. The problem is that normally in a huge mall with 50 bathrooms they might have one changing room, which will be hidden around the corner next to one of the 50 bathrooms. Normally to find it you have to ask.
You asked if they exist. The answer is yes.
honestly, you think it would make a difference? Last year i was in a restaurant, besides me a group of 8 people, all chinese with kids. One kid has to take a piss, what they do? They brough him outside, in front of the door of this restaurant and let the kid piss right in front of the entrance (and the restaurant has a wc)...so what is it? The feng shui?

the thing is, we are moaning over something that doesn't have an alternative. I know putting a facility in place does not mean that it will solve the problem, but some problems exist because there is no alternative.

Flight Airfrance from Guangzhou to Paris. Baby crying his lungs out in front of me with the diaper clearly full like an egg. I was sitting in the emergency row by the toilets and the woman was standing by them. I told the mother to just change it. She did. Took off the diaper, threw it on the floor by my feet, put on a new one without even thinking of cleaning the poor boy's ass. Good thing is that he immediately stopped crying, so I still have hope in him for the next generation.
Ah, probably the diaper would have gone all the way to Paris on the floor if I didn't tell her to pick it up.
Well for what you need diaper changing rooms if no one uses diapers for their kids?
The first time i was in china and saw all the kids with their sliced pants on the back i thought "what the heck?"
well now i know for what it is... yesterday just saw a mother holding her kid in the supermarket over the vegie bin (where you put in the green stuff from the corn)
Not that I know of. I consider myself somewhat of a Chinese bathroom connoisseur, since I had to make frequent trips to them all over the country. Never seen anything remotely close to a baby changing table.
Actually, I did once... the restaurant table. But they'd have to be wearing diapers to begin with... I don't think I saw a single kid with a diaper.

Yes they do. If you don't believe me go to the new Joy City Shopping mall they have a room that caters for that kind of stuff.....you'll be amazed and shocked at the same time. They really went all out. That's the only place I've seen one though.
