Q: Does foreign branded beer taste the same in China?
I am talking about foreign beers that are produced and bottled in China, like Budweiser, Corona, Heineken, Carlsberg. Do they have a different/lower quality taste than back home?
i dont trust any beer made in china unless its in a can that has an import sticker.
the coors beer in shanghai was close but no cigar.
China, in most instances, does not allow foreign beer inside of China. What you are most likely drinking is swill made at joint venture breweries in China.
I've tried Budweiser and Heineken here and it doesn't taste the same as back in the States. Tastes weaker..

Yeah, kinda reminds me of the "3/2" beer that was sold in the supermarkets in St Paul, MN....
those beers you mentioned are different in China. Also Chinese beers that are exported are different than the beer they keep in China.
Most beers in China also has lower alcohol percentage.
I think Heineken is the best of the bunch. A shop by my house strangely sells the big bottles of it for only 8 kuai, so that's my go-to beer most of the time. But yes it still tastes different.
Hit and miss for me. I've had some really weird tasting Carlsbergs (crap beer anyway but beggars can't be choosers) though Heneiken usually does the job for me. Luckily, in Beijing there's a place called Heaven which is full of imported beers at supermarket prices, so I can get a bottle of Budvar for 15 kuai!
I've noticed that Budweiser tastes more like piss than usual. Corona is delicious as always. Carlsberg is spotty at times. Heineken almost always tastes off, like it sat in a shipping container for weeks with no climate control and somebody forgot about it.
I was kind of a big time beer drinker at one time .. used to appreciate the rice in budweiser products from Canada ,,,,, but now ..no, in answer to the question, I would not trust a foreign brand label, her in china................. hope they approve more local guys to make beer... what the hell ..beer is beer and not that difficult ...fewer ingedients the better!!!!
In Shanghai, there are places where you can find legit selections of quality beer. I haven't drank any of the more common beers (Bud, Heineken etc.) in a long time due to the amount of options here. If you ever get the chance, go for a Trappistes Rochefort 6. Mind=blown
