Q: Does Mainland China have any rock stars?

I know Hong Kong has Beyond (RIP) and Taiwan has loads of talented rock musicians, but what about the Mainland?

Hi Ludo!

That was a interesting question. Did a quick research and couldn't find any bands that has it ORIGNAL roots in Mainland China.

BUT

I did come across this article which got me all fired up with excitement! until i saw "next month" . Article was posted March 30, 2011.
Bob Dylan's first china concert?? man that would of been awesome!

I guess Rock may still be to taboo for China ... soon though ... soon they will succumb to rock! Cool

Rock music is alive and well in China and yes, the Mainland does have rockstars. Cui Jian is probably the most famous of all rock stars and is known as "the Godfather of Chinese rock". Dou Wei is another major star also from Cui Jian's generation and was part of the movement that kickstarted rock music on the Mainland, particularily with his band Black Panther and later as a solo artist. Zhang Chu, Wang Feng and Xie Tianxiao are also big name stars in the scene.

Rock music in China was perhaps once underground, but I would strongly argue that rock has surfaced to the mainstream, but that it still faces more obstacles than more established music genres like, let's say, pop.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
