Q: Does modern Chinese society have Nietzsche's slave mentality?

Think about it. Children, are forced to do everything just to make their parents happy. Then they turn around and force their own children to do the same thing
The schools have teachers who teach the same mistakes in English their own teacher made, yet never challenge it.
-Everyone praises 'harmony' but really this is the praise of 'utility' and a sign of the weakness slavishness of the society.
-What do you think?

I dont think children in China are forced to make their parents happy by a long way, they are expected to study hard and that is all, everthing else is given by the parents and grandparents,no chores part time jobs etc

I think they are very goal-oriented/ competitive. I mean you can't really blame them because locals are actually competing with billion other Chinese out there who are smarter/younger/ have better English communication skills so they are dispensible/ replaceable at work.

GuilinRaf:

The ONLY time I ever see them "competitive" is when taking the college entrance exams. After that, everything is half-assed.

Nietzsche? Really? Seriously? People are still doing the Nietzsche thing? Does that still get you young people laid by girls with thick-rimmed glasses and thick green wool sweaters? Do you still explain about his pro-semitic pamphlets and how he broke up his bromance with Wagner and pointedly scoff at such ignorant misconceptions?

Maybe? I guess? China has tought me that we're all just slaves to our unconcious cultural biases. The tired old heroic individualist leader thing has been kicking around Germanic cultures (including Anglophone ones) since Tacitus and probably seems appealing to us mainly because we were raised with it. I enjoy the lovely irony that Nietzsche and his followers talk like they're breaking away from society's rigid shackles when they're mostly just praising their own society's oldest ideal? Or something. I dunno Nietzsche man that's honestly kind of lame.

rasklnik:

-I'm sorry but believe it or not some people in this world still think dead Western thinkers have great insight into the problems of society. It's called being educated. Most of Nietzsche is pretty tough, but the lack of machismo in modern Chinese males is clearly a sign of their psycho sexual castration at the hands of their parents

kchur:

Hello there Rasklnik. I'm an aspiring classicist. I came to China to learn classical Chinese before going for my pHd because that's the only of the big five classical languages that no university in my country comprehensively teaches. But anyway, I didn't spend nearly a decade of my life memorizing mind-numbing tables of Greek declinations because I feel the need to "diss" dead white dudes, as you young people put it.

So...I'm really confused. You disparage continental philosophy but you've spent time and money on classical Greek? I suppose there is a third option you just really don't like Nietzsche...Actually seems the most likely. He was kind of a d***k.

When you just don't understand the situation, the words like "slave""force" should not be used so often in a question if you really try to get some good answers!....

After all these words, do you think Chinese are miserable?..our answer is definitely no, so save your concerns... Ppl are living in different culture, hving different ways for life....DO YOU THINK WESTERNERs ARE MISERABLE?....in my concerns yes...you are at a sense for narrow-minded...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
