Q: Does rhubarb exist in China?

I was telling my GF in the spring about rhubarb and she did not know what it is. It is the only thing I grow to eat. I was just reading about rhubarb. The traditional Chinese pharmacopeia features rhubarb as a laxative. Is rhubabrb not common in China ? No strawberry rhubabrb, how barbaric.

I have wandered through many markets and have never seen rhubarb in China.

It was popular because it comes up early in the year, became widely used after sugar was plentiful..The Chinese had it. I hardly see it in stores here and then its 5 stalks for $5. I had a garden that had a 80ft row of Rhubarb. I'd give it away in big bags
.I like just rhubarb pie with sour cream in it. I make rhubarb crisp in a turkey roaster pan. I'm a Spartan, love a good feed.

The do have it here - it's called 大黄 - daihuang. It's mostly cultivated for use in TCM though, and since that makes more money than selling it for food, that's where it all goes.
