Q: Is drug use a problem in China?
The war on drugs here seems to be in hyperdive compared to back home.
If people here do, why would they risk it.
I have seen the funniest signs outside nightclubs in Shenzhen warning people of random urine tests by cops!!

I have seen Chinese folks shooting up in parks & under bridges many times. I have also seen folks (foreign & locals) doing lines of coke & K on the VIP tables in clubs & KTV's.
If you live in Guangzhou, just hang around the bars & clubs near the Garden Hotel area and Nigerians will happily introduce themselves and their stock of available drugs.
I have never seen anyone busted for drugs. But I guess if you get high and do something really stupid, then all bets are off.

There's a huge problem with drugs. Many factory workers take meth so they can work longer. Heroin is smuggled in all along the border with Myanmar and there's even some coming in from North Korea. Coke is also getting popular in the clubs and bars of big cities. Yuck.
Laowai don't get in too much trouble for drugs. I know a guy who was dumb enough to get into a fight with a small amount of cocaine on him. He was detained for a week and then deported. A pain in the ass, but at least not a jail sentence.
Drug use is a problem in any country. Thank goodness I haven't seen anyone using drugs here, just smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. Then again, I'm in a college, the kids here are generally naive. Hopefully they won't fall into that trap after they graduate.

It seems like you are belonging to a place where you can not see this issue. It is a very huge problem in the border of China. For an example we can talk about the border between China and Vietnam, Laos and Thailand . If I remember right then the place name is Zheng Kang in Yunnan province. Its a City with a lots of problems caused by the drugs and Drugs user. There are many such example in Sichuan also. you may Google it. Rohit
A small drug problem here, not like the states. I spent some time out in the wild wild west of China (up against the Stans, failed russian states), there was some opiate use out there.
Ha at Nigerians, from a previous poster! Those guys are everywhere, even ran into em in Dongguan, and yep they are drug peddlers for the most part.
They generally sentence the local populace to extreme jail sentences, or death if they have enough quantity.
I dont do drugs, so it works for me.
BTW , China is the number 1 trans shipment point for drugs in the world. Drug lords ship containers here and then back out all over the world. How in the heck are you going to check millions of containers?
