A 2009 report from the Chinese Academy of Geophysics assessed Beijing (and the surrounding area) as having a "high seismic risk".
In fact there are three fault lines running through or near Beijing one of the most well known being the Babaoshan fault line running from Dahuichang in western Beijing to Shunyi in the city’s northeast.
