Q: Is echiancities.com turning into battle ground?

I thought people are using this forum to share information, give advices and help people who are planing to come to China to give them an idea of lifestyle here.

BUT

Recently I see CFTU for and against discussions, fighting.

FT vs Chinese

This is the best forum I've been on, if you wanna see a site thats crawling with fighters go to shenzhenstuff.com

ScotsAlan:

Second best forum I have been on. But this is the best in China.  One has to remember where one is after all.

My worry is not the local wumaos..... it's the gungho anti Chinese posting from abroad... where they are safe from the laws of this land.

One just needs to remember location location location before one posts.

GoKunming is a good forum. But I am not registered because I don't live there.

Most foreign forums are dead. Nobody wants to stick their neck out to contribute.

Dalianexpat is a good example. No posters, but the owner keeps it going with his "only in China" thread. it's well worth a read.

Well, I guess a lot of common information has already been answered, so there might not be the huge need for questions and answers there might have been at some point. So people might be getting bored.

There also were many people who tried their hardest to bring a bad atmosphere to this forum, so that might have left some scars.

I'm just taking a guess.

Simple, from the day this site opened it has been a bastion for free discussion about China, good and bad, what we love and what gets on our nerves. The Chinese government has a serious problem with that. They dispatched Wumaos (paid commentators) to control the discussion, attack those speak anything negative about China, speak negative about foreigners and foreign countries, and promote the CFTU.

If you speak truth to their lies they will come after you. They revealed the true identity of another poster and dug up stuff about his past and then posted it online. Which is what they are trying to do with me now. But my visa has already been approved for this year, my last year in China so they can all go into a room a screw themselves.

This forum has always been a battle ground. Expats who believe and practice free speech and the Chinese govt who wants to limit free speech (They have even used hackers to take the site down a couple of times).

The forum is a bit up and down. Sometimes can get pretty nasty, but other times, I think people have gotten genuine help.

Read selectively.

On this note, this morning I have removed a few users from the forum to try and help this matter and bring a moment of peace before the next attack. Unfortunately we cannot control who creates a username on the website and, inevitably, they will be back.

The following users will no longer be with us:

cricket

Grumpy

CFTU.Admin

Techtronix

EZ4ME2B

I have no doubt that they were wumaos out to sabotage this forum and promote the CFTU which appears to be a fraudulent organization (Thanks in part to DrMonkey's research).

I hope we can continue for a little while now with some good discussions.

ironman510:

I got dogged at  when I called out Grumpy and EZ4ME2B as "strange topic starters." Their topics were totally off what we usually talk about, it wasn't just 1 topic but 6 or 7 topics within a week on off the wall issues.  I agree they were wumao's. Thanks Admin.

I'm curious as to what "research" was sufficient to declare a) that they are fraudulent, and b) therefore those promoting it are wumaos. That's a pretty strong stretch of the imagination if you can get that happening!

I understand the idea that you think they have tried to 'sabotage' this site, but only because they have suggested that various recruiters and agents are allowed who are known to rip FTs off to advertise on here (which, granted, are allowed on a number/most expat forums/sites). This discussion has come up before... "should expat sites allow such agents/schools to advertise on their sites?" Personally, I think 'NO' (screamed long and loud! but hey, I have a sense of ethics, and money isn't my god)

Query: were they outright banned? Or were they given adequate warning first?

There's also an odd poster or two here that like to point their fingers at others for being " A CHINEEESE !!!!! " as soon as they realize they didn't agree with a quarter of what you said (not like they even bothered to read carefully)

If you don't  fit into this code of "foreigners sticking with foreigners" or mundane China bashing then you're definitely one of THEM.

To those guys, How about leaving the policing up to the admin, you armchair Rambos?

People always say China bashing, what exactly is China bashing?

Are we not supposed to talk about the corruption, lying , cheating, lack of rule of law, poor behavior, etc. What exactly is China bashing? Give examples please. Or is that just "mundane" whining.

I just spotted a recent accusation from an alleged former eChinaCities writer directed against the staff here, and Hulk of all people. Has he ever even worked for the site? It's in that KTV hostess story. I don't put much weight to the words, but the recent CFTU mess and all those anonymous bait attempts has got me seriously wondering how safe we are to talk here, if at all. Old posters also seem to limit their comments because of the hostile atmosphere. Should I be careful what I say and ask here, too? Wumaos are all over the place, and accusations are flying around. Can anyone recall a published story on this site about: "Tibet, Tiananmen, Taiwan, the Dalai Lama, Corruption in the party, or China’s ridiculous territorial claims"? I honestly don't know what to think anymore.

Seems that you've picked up on a new term: "china bashing."  I'm a bit taken aback that you need that to be explained to you....  anybody with a "decent" English level would be able to have an idea about what bashing means, no?

Obviously it's not simply pointing out corruption , lying, cheating, ect.  Bashing takes things further to taking this behavior and exaggerating it in a degree that is inconsistent with reality, simply because you are in a bad mood, or don't like China, or want to make yourself look better.   Whining is definitely included.  If you want any more examples, then sorry.  Try to figure the rest out yourself.

Furthermore, it's odd that you ask, considering you seem to be very sensitive about (perceived) bashing when the shoe is on the other foot.  A post about a slimeball teacher (who really exists) seems to have really nerved you up for some reason.  The fact  that you didn't even bother asking much about the situation before you jumped into a tirade about me being a Chinese is a bit indicative of your over aggressive Anti-China mentality in my opinion.

Those union posts are obvious scams, and I think a sticky note should be made, or perhaps a blog article written, in order to teach new people about these things.  You seem to have taken up a John Rambo type role in defending the forums from these Chinese posters...   Fine if you have the time...  but don't get overzealous now...    Calling a guy an imposter for making the post that I did is a bit incredulous if you ask me.  I don't care what monopoly over the English language you may claim...   What you think "all Americans should talk like" is only useful for you and you only,  I could also care less if the sentence I expressed the information in was "British English" or not.

I think even though China sorta sucks in lots of ways, it is still worth trying to understand the forces at play instead of oversimplifying things and making over generalized statements that "all things are____ here, all people are ____ here."  These are often the beginnings of incessant bashing.

In many circumstances, if a Chinese person said that about us, we would be annoyed at the generalization.

Tarzan:

In my humble opinion there is way to much prejudice on this forum towards the CFTU, which apparently is not even allowed to defend themselves (banned and apparently no explanation was given). So this begs the question "WHY?" After doing some digging, I found the answer...

Most of the people who bash and trash the CFTU are recruiters or job agents, and judging from these links some of them like Traveler lurk on this forum pretending to be a teacher colleague.  Quite clever.

http://eslwatch.info/china-2/scams-or-schemes-in-china/12147-beware-of-agents-recruiters-masquerading-as-esl-tefl-teachers-at-expat-esl-tefl-forums.html

http://www.thebeijinger.com/forum/2014/04/12/too-many-agents-recruiters-now-posting-teachers-expat-forums

http://www.eslbase.com/forum/viewtopic/t-3125

Also if you Google "Traveler, scam, China Daily Mail, China ESL" you will see WHY Traveler has been trying to smear the CFTU here at ECC.  He is a recruiter for China ESL which an unethical agency blacklisted by the CFTU since 2010.

Traveler admitted to being a moderator for EchinaCities.com at this link here which is certainly "interesting" to say the least.

http://chinadailymail.com/2013/12/18/echinacities-expat-website-now-a-propaganda-machine/

As for who the REAL users are on this web site that attack the CFTU, this blog entry by Craig aka "Traveler" is even more intriguing.

What CFTU is not:

An organization involved in all sorts of interesting dramas, having made enemies of nasty people. Your dramas do not exist. You created those. You are always quoting the same links. It gets old.

What CFTU is:

A scam, a busted scam, of one or two morons trying to mimic implanting their presence in various expat forums.

Yeah! right on Tarzan!

The people on this forum who "Trash and Bash" are the people who are the most in need of what the CFTU offers. It is just unforgivable the trashing/bashing they do.

Gee, can you think of someone else who came to help people and was crucified for doing the right thing??

I'll give you all a hint, his initials were JC.
