Q: English school Need Criiminal Record from USA

My friend is in North China right now trying to get an English teaching job. His school says he needs to get a criminal record document that says he has no criminal offense in America.

The school wants him to send this example document to local police office in USA and have them sign off on it. They said that other teachers did this prior but you know this does not work like this in the USA.

Anybody from the USA that needed to provide a criminal record? I know if you go to the FBI you can obtain one but you must do fingerprinting at a local police station in the USA. How do you USA folks get this record if you are in China?

Did you use a website? If so, which one?

And what is this record for? Z Visa or the English school or both?

Many thanks for your comments.

If the school provides you with a form, then the past teachers (if any of them actually had to do this) probably just signed it themselves since the chances of US police filling out a form like that is probably around zero.

But a lot of schools outside of China require proof of non-criminal records, real diplomas, etc...  But hey, TIC.  Just turn in the document and a fat red envelope and the police will claim you as the next Dali lama if the envelope is big enough.

i had a friend leave china to teach in vietnam and the state of pennsylvanial will provide a criminal background check online for anybody, he used this to teach in vietnam so he would not have to go back home.

if you need a stamp on it , take it to the us embassy to be notarized but i think an independent report in mailed envelope from america will work.

good luck

This is good info. My friend is from Florida and on the FL Dept of Law website you pay $24 and they will give you a non certified copy of FL State records. If you wish to have one certified they can mail your certified copy but you have to fill in application and mail it to them. I think he will ask his sister to mail it to get the certified copy just in case.

That sounds like a huge hassle. My advice to your friend would just be to take a job somewhere else, as I'm pretty sure that this is a requirement from the school and not one from the local government. At least the local governments in the places that I've taught have never asked for a criminal record, especially not while applying from inside China.

yes , you may be right , my scanned image of my criminal report is all i have ever provided , nobody has ever asked for the original and i still have with me here in china from 3 years ago.

Considering that most police stations in America require you to come in an personally pick up your criminal record report for Privacy protection, these Chinese demands are a bit unrealistic.  Tell your friend to go to Guanzhou where they will hire rapists and serial killers without blinking an eye.

Hulk:

Really? They hire serial killers in Guangzhou? I'm looking for a job in Guangzhou.
