Q: English speakers in Baotou

My job has just moved me to Baotou, the largest city in Inner Mongolia. I'm wondering about the English speaking population here. I'd like to make some friends, be they white, yellow, purple, etc. as long as they can speak decent English (I've only just started studying Mandarin recently, so it'll be a while). Any English speakers out there in Baotou?

Try any local universities or public schools - there must be a few foreign teachers attached to them.

Also if there are any foreign food places like KFC/Mc D's or Starbucks (i know that chances are in Inner Mongolia........)

Coffee shops are another place to try out.

If you have any local friends to ask, find out where locals would go to practice their English.

Thank you, I suppose I just need to explore the city more. I've only been here a week.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
