Q: English Training school: 11 kindergartens, 1 foreigner. Blessing or curse?

I know someone doing this drill, 2 kindergartens a day and sometimes 3. She doesnt seem to mind. How much can a foreigner in this position earn? is this a normal set up?

Well! if that is true I think she is doing illigal unless allowed to work part time. Who is the employer in that case? 11 kindergartens can't be in a circle of 2KMs how does she manage all that? That is total BS. In case she is earning whatever, why should one bother to know?

Im dead serious mate. 2 kindergartens a day. 3 classes in the morning then after lunch taxi to the next kindergarten for another 3 classes. i think each class is about 30 mins. anyways she says she has to clock 14 to 20 hours a week and she gets a basic salary of 5500, appartment, visa and food allowance.

My question is how much should she be getting? because i also thought this is ludicrous. but its true...she is my girlfriend The employer is the owner of the school, who gets all these kindergartens then farms her off..

Where is she from? Native /Non native English speaker? Is she on a Z visa? If what you say is true she has been ripped off too hard. The employer qualifies for 'National Saving Award' though its your gf's fault equally if she agrees to whatever employer says unless she is not on a Z...

I usually work at kindergartens only part-time. I can't take 20h with kids a week. However, less than 10h can make me enjoy kids. Pay no less than 180Rmb (in Dalian my last part-time or was it more). Easy money, if one enjoys working with babies.

30' per class are 2 -5 Y old babies, and if she's doing that as one job, it's illegal, unless Co. has 18 Kindergartens, and her RPermit is based at the Co./headquarters.

5000 Rmb for 20h per week is not enough. Pay should be double at least for that kind of work.

I had lousy Contract with Helen, and I got 5500 Rmb for 14 classes/week. My lowest pay in China.

Probably out of fear and respect she willingly does this work. Yes she has Z-Visa and the works,

So her being told over and over again that she is not native, she just agrees to play along.

True story..but what can she do?

1. She can find new job/employer/RP sponsor. Find new RP sponsor first!

2. Submit Resignation letter to the present Co., because of the Contract breach. She should respect RNotice out of the Contract (30-days), unless breach of the Contract warrant immediate resignation (no pay few months).

One copy of RLetter to SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) in her city. Type 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact nos. around China.

3. Call SAFEA, and ask them for an advice. They will straighten up her employer, because employer most likely violate Chinese law.

4. With SAFEA's support, she'll be able to get Release letter and FEC Cancelation Certificate, both documents required for extension/change of RP sponsor.

Good luck!

I am not a 'Naive' speaker myself so as the guy above. It is rediculous on behalf of employer to play this card since she is working and probably able to work otherwise parents will complaint. Which means she is good at her job just not having a passport from the list. I don't simply agree to any such contract that requires me to 'go round and round'. I have turned down dozen of offers from middle east due to personal reasons otherwise there are more oppurtunities over there if one can get along with life over there.. Salaries are also pretty good over there as compared to the peanuts here. I must mention I have a masters degree in applied linguistics which has been a trump card for me so far.She should start looking for other places from now on and swicth job as soon she gets a positive response.

Look at the contract and check the clause if what she has been asked is according to the contract or not. I am sure the employer is playing around and breaching the contract as you said the schools aren't directly related which means the training school is ripping off both your gf and the kindergartens. She can negotiate with one of the kindergarten for full time job if they are allowed to hire foreign teachers. Negotiating with the current employer seems to me useless since they will play non-native card over and over.

If she's ECE qualified, she should be making around 18K per month. Being farmed out is illegal.

What's her nationality and qualifications?

Iron12:

well she has a Bachelor' s, a tefl and over 3 years experience, I dont know about ECE

she is not from the big 5, so she is non native

I think you are right man 5500 is too little

The work permit is tied to a specific employer. If all the kintergartens are owned by the same company, with a license to employ foreigners, then it is probably ok.

If she is working "freelance", then that is illegal.

Iron12:

The kindergartens are not owned by the training school, they hire foreign classes from the school at a price every month we dont know how much. This is in shandong just outside Jinan. This Training school seems mafia to me...we talking 11 Kindergartens in co operation.

In that case, she is working illegaly. But... gotta be careful what I say... so what. Just because I am legal today, does not mean I will not need to be illegal tomorrow. Things change. we need trail blazers to change things. But dont expect fast changes. The Crow laws in the US for example. Some stood for a hundred years. How many generations is that? And no pardon for the people who were the first to resist. They are forgotten. Personally, I dont like borders. Thousands of people have died in the Med sea this year, desperate to flee war torn countries. Wars started by, and paid for, by the western countries because they dont like one particular guy. Open all doors I say. But I suspect that will take even longer than it did to rid the USA of Jim Crows legacy. indeed, his legacy is not yet gone. Its a sad state of affairs.

will do so: icnif77 ScotsAlan..how can she be working illegaly if she has a z visa, FEC and residence permit? This is mafiadom, from PSB to Kindergarten and yes the training school has a licence to hire foreigners the issue is how to negotiate a higher salary

ScotsAlan:

No its not. The vast majority of people have no knowledge of visa laws. Even the Police. The Police who know visa laws have different uniforms, and different cars even. You dont see them often. The PSB are not in the pay of the mafia. They are just turning a blind eye to people playing the game. Not all Chinese believe in Chinese laws. I have nott read of a dancing auntie being arrested.

My RP is sponsored by one School, which holds authorization for FT hire. If I 'moonlight' at another School (not RP sponsor) I'm illegal worker by Chinese law.

At your friend's example, as soon as her RP sponsor gave her schedule/told her to work at different Kindies, it's against the Chinese law, or it's 'Contract breach' from the employer's side.

You see it as an 'issue', I don't. If I dislike my place of work for this or that reason, I'll follow quitting points above. Who cares who's Police and who's mafia, and what not. That's subject for movie directors.

IMO, you can't negotiate Chinese! They're negotiating masters. Read quitting points again.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
