Q: Even though we are different, why are we not the same?
I have continually butt heads with Chinese co-workers about management, accounting, financial accounting, and the overall structure of business. Each time I encounter the same response. "That is not how it is done in China." I understand this, I understand that tax laws are different and evaded. However, fundamental and international principles of management stay the same. Why does China have an ill attitude towards change for the better? Global research, which has included China, has brought about many absences in China. So let us examine them.
Meritocracy vs. Autocracy.... thinking outside the box will set your self apart in both cases, but one is in a good way, and the other not
It boggles my mind. One of my former students told me what happens in her office. The new workers are given lists of clients to try to attract their business. These lists often have clietns which the senion employees could not "hook"
Now here is the kicker: If a "newbie" gets a client, even if that client had rejected the senior employee the SENIOR employee gets to keep that client (the newbie has to surrender that client)! How do they (the newbies) succeed? By being around long enough so that THEY in turn can poach another Newibes clients in the future!
NOW I uderstand why so many of my students do not want to work for a local company, even if it is international.
That's the problem. They are your coworkers, not your employees. To go against the boss or to make him look bad is to get fired. Also, it can make them look bad, or maybe they don't see a need to change it. In other words, they are lazy. Besides, why change if you aren't their boss? Can you make them change?
