Q: Ever come across the artwork scam or any other?

You ever come across these people in Shanghai selling art? I've heard it's a scam, though I don't know how the scam plays out. But there's another one to look out for and I got caught on it. Two girls I met in the street invite me to a shop for tea. I go along, sit and drink, chit and chat and then when the bill comes discover i've been had. The bill came to 1750 yuan for what should have cost about 95. It was only then that I found I was alone and there were 7 staff members, plus some big dude who'd appeared from nowhere, all holding their hands out and saying, "Pay what you owe."

As it happens I didn't pay shit, i'm a Londoner, more than willing to take a beating and quick on my feet so I made my best angry face (which is kind of Elmer Fudd on crack), made like a banana and splat - but a good friend of mine did get caught on it and ended up forking out about 1200 yuan.

So my question to you people out dare is dis: what other scams are there to look out for, be it at the airport (as one other member of this website mentioned earlier), be it on planes, trains and automobiles, in pubs, clubs, or submarines, in shops, stations, streets, markets, stores, outdoors, on the road, in the rain (this is beginning to sound like Dr Seuss) or any other place. What is one to look out for if one is wanting to avoid one being stung?

Had a airport "scam" once. Hopped out of the taxi and an old man had already took my luggage out of the boot and placed in the trolley even before I got out of the taxi. Then he proceeded to walk with the trolley until I grabbed it off him then he asked for 50rmb. Put the pace on and walked in the terminal while he was left pennyless
