Q: Ever experienced hard times in China?

When I moved to China in 2005 I had little money to get myself settled, had come suddenly and unprepared as a friend here was dying, plus it was the beginning of summer and I didn't have a job waiting, but all the schools where I was had already filled their summer positions. Before long I had nothing but 200 yuan in the world and only one more night with somewhere to sleep. It was only by chance that I met someone, as I was sitting thinking how to solve this problem, who had a daughter that needed private tuition, plus he had an empty flat that he let me sleep in for free. After this things slowly turned around. Curious fate indeed.

So what of yourself? Ever fallen on hard times here?

do agree with phill here but the worst experience that happened to me is that i failed my chinese course at my first year while all my foreign classmates passed it..so after graduation i had to re-take the course again cause that was the "Rule" for international students at that university.....the ironic thing is that now i do speak better chinese than my classmates who passed the course the first time do

i am a Chinese, does my answer count?Yeah,i had a difficult time since late 2009 to early 2011.After graduation in 2009,i didn't go to work but went to Wuhan, rent a house with friends and prepared for the graduate entrance examination. That's the second time i prepared for the test, i had taken the test in the last year before graduation but failed. After graduation, when all my classmates went to work,i went to Wuhan with 1000 yuan or so,after renting a house (i rent the house with four friends) and buying some other things,i found little left. Thanks to my friends, they lent me nearly11000 yuan without knowing when i could paying them back. With the money,i spent two years in Wuhan concentrating on studying,i took the test for two times ,each time it seems i was quite close to succeed but still i failed for two times. In April 2011,i went to Shenzhen to work without any experience though i had graduated for two years,it was easy to get a work, but it was quite hard to get a work as an accountant, almost all companies required two or three years' experience at least while enrolling  accountants.Again my friends lent me 4000 yuan,so i didn't need to worry too much about expense while finding a job.At last,i got a job as an assistant of foreign trade salesman, then i paid off all my debt in October and sent each friend that helped me a present for thankness. After the Spring Festival,i applied to resign,as the job i did was not  what i really liked but just a way to pay off my debt,i told the boss i wanted to change my job to be an accountant and would develop in the finance region in the long run,my boss didn't approve my resignation but arranged me to work as an accountant in the finance department.Though my salary is still low right now,i am doing what i like and i think things will be better and better.

Nope. Didn't come here for hard times. Came here for good times.

Glad all of that worked out in your past, and you are doing much better!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
