Q: Ever met up with another expat you met online in China?

When I go through some expat forums, I always see people start off with the whole "I'm new to China" speal, and then end up agreeing to meet another expat in the same city they are in the comments below.

Has anyone here ever done this?

Good stories about meetings? Bad stories about meetings?

Sure, several times. No bad stories  but not necessarily awesome either, we just never kept in contact and only hung out occasionally. I've met more friends through happenstance than setting up a meet.

I have on several occasions. I have invited some to my home for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners if they were not returning to their home countries. No bad stories, I have met people I did not particular relate to occasionally. Some I have formed genuine friendships. Most are just people I see occasionally.

I met one expat in Tianjin soon after I first arrived. He helped me with various useful information so I'd say it was a good thing. Sorry, no horror stories.
