Q: Ever met an expat who hated home country and was 100% pro-China?
We all gripe about our home countries, both because we love em and because, well, we wouldn't be here in China if we were completely satisfied back home. But did you ever meet an expat who took that way too far here? Who hated his or her own country and kept going on about how amazing China and the Chinese government and communism was?
Met one of these specimens the other night. By chance, though, because he hates other foreigners, and desperately tries to mingle only with Chinese. Guy was fascinated with Mao, with the Communist party, and would literally get red (lulz) to the face if you even attempted to talk about the U.S.. It was fascinating, really.
Yes, I have encountered two. One in guilin and one in Sichuan.
The Sichuan guy was the worst! He only talked to me because he heard my (trying) to speak Chinese. Claims to be a former Canadian who has lived in China since the early 90's and became a Chinese Citizen about ten years ago. In his early 70's, he is married, two teenage daughters and he does not allow them to speak ANY foreign language. Nor would he allow them to marry a foreigner unless he was "Dr. Bethune".
The other guy is for the most part harmless. He will mostly mix with Chinese, watch Chinese programing, etc. But, he does seem to feel it is his duty to teach us "uncouth barbarians the way" (my words, not his). His saving point is that he is very helpful and happy to answer questions, etc. though a bit on the pedantic side. But, he will help.
Sounds like you met an idiot. Tell him to give up his US citizenship and see what he says.
i never have and if i did i think that whoever it is they are usually social outcasts and cant hold a job and they are usually pretty stupid

Watched a doco about James Dresnok. Very interesting guy and his reason behind his jump across the border. If you watch it listen to his son can barely speak a word of English and hopes one day he can work for the Government in North Korea.
If you are one of the unlucky ones who have been enlisted into some Western government's torture program, the Chinese government doesn't look any worse anymore.
I also met an Italien guy who thought of the CPC as a more efficient way of ruling a country than Berlusconi.
