If, as you say, you have been reading this forum daily, you will probably have noticed a very high degree of trolling in the last few months.

While many regular posters try to maintain a degree of courtesy and respect, some answers are made with tongues firmly in cheeks. The odd off-colour remark from regular posters can be put down to BCD's. 

It is not hard to read which these are and a quick review of previous comments will make it clear that these are out of character.

new posters can be forgiven from asking questions already asked - i am sure we have all done it.

However, you can not have failed to notice the posters whose sole aim is to denigrate and insult while offering no useful comment.

Because the Admin has not appeared to apply the guide-lines at the time, many posters tried to deal with the problems with varying degrees of success.

Yes, the forum is a public place and free speach blah blah blah, but its success is based on how people treat each other.

As i have commented before, even with the use of aliases and avatars, people characters are revealed through their posts.

so help me - I also give a damn about this site.

I have made new friends here, learnt a lot about China, and shared experiences and had a laugh.

Since this is the last day that you'll read this forum, perhaps I am "talking" to myself.

Ex-pat forums by their very nature are filled with transients, newbies, long-termers and everyone else in between. Forums also evolve (or devolve depending on your POV) according to the season, age, and education of its members.

I've been a member of 'The Greasy Spoon' for years but I never post there or participate any more. Once in a while, I log-on only to see that the first page on the job discussion forum and the off-topic forum is exactly the same questions and banal threads each time...often with the same posters originating and/or responding.

As for the tone of responses - I believe part of the problem stems from some poster's sense of entitlement or lack of critical thinking skills. I'm amazed that some younger pups, who have been born with a mouse in their hand, cannot do a simple search especially on Google to find everything they need to know about certain issues. E.g.: Can I get teaching job with no degree and no experience? The answer is readily available already on these forums and definitely available on Google (in several languages to boot!). Some of these same posters keep rephrasing that same question over-and-over again in hopes of finally getting the reply that they want to see.

It's also hard, as a long-timer in China, to try and get FOB posters (Hi Hadleyj!) to understand that there are distinct phases that people go through when they are new to China and not everything is ponies and rainbows.

I tend towards sarcasm as that is part of my warped sense of humor. Some posters, again mainly the young pups, have been weaned on the milk of political correctness and thus take offense without even trying to understand the message.

Lastly, "Who the hell cares if others are wumaos or fakes or liars? Isn't the goal of visiting this forum to share information and seek some mild form of entertainment?" Yes, and no. Entertainment is neither here nor there but when it comes to a legitimate question, especially one that involves legal or personal security aspects in China, having misinformed, misleading or out-dated information being disseminated is a disservice to everyone - especially opinions rather than facts.

No forum is perfect, posters have their moods, their styles and their own personal perspectives on everything.

About the rest of your questions? There were (are, whatever) wumaos here, and more than a few posters with certain agendas. Thus the 'wumao' accusations. 

Don't take this place seriously. Most others don't.

I dont know. I think your just being sensitive because some called you a liar in your last post. Youll also notice others just answered your question. Good luck finding another place where 100% percent of the people ON THE INTERNET, agree with you completely, or isnt going to be sarcastic sometimes. Thise are unrealistic expectations. As for the wumao point.
If you really have read daily, calling people out for that is really quite rare compared to last year. That was all anyone did for a few months there. So , no. Im happy with how things are.

Listen it's nothing personal, but there have been tons of trolls lately. Who knows if they are actual wumaos or just local losers, scammers or even just expats being sarcastic and having a laugh.

But you do see posts that are pretty obviously asking a cowardly "leading" question. "Why are so many expats sexual predators?" "Does anyone learn chinese not just to get a girlfriend?" or posts that do look like bait into over-the-top anti china/chinese people rants. 

"I just violently beat a chinese person (who DID NOT deliberately attack me) unconscious for being rude and fled the scene unpunished...tell me YOUR stories of violently beating chinese people!"

Flip that around where you accidently hit someone with a car or bike (god forbid)...maybe you wouldn't be talking shit but what if the person you hit beat you to an inch of your life? Would it really matter whether you were impolite about the accident or not? No, they'd be convicted and punished for a more-or-less unprovoked attack.

Hell even taking that at face value that's not exactly something you deserve a pat on the back for, though we can all understand the anger when someone selfishly ignores the safety of others for their own convenience.

The problem with the global village is all the global village idiots. 

So you were called a wumao yesterday. Hasn't everyone of the regulars on this forum been called a wumao at some point. Let it slide and keep visiting the forum. I've also been on the forum for a while and your story yesterday does stand out as a bit extreme, kind of like Hulk's MIL stories or anything ever written by <numbers>. Perhaps due to the extreme nature of the story people will more easily think it is fabricated. Maybe some people respond less courteous because they don't condone violence. Maybe some people know that it is the extreme stories that will spin out of control, blow up in the face of any commentators, and pulling the wumao card is one way of killing a thread. 

Oh, and if I ever lash out, then it is, as Sorrel points out, probably due to BCDs, of which I have up to 365 per year. 

Your feelings got hurt so you're just going to take your ball and leave?   Is this how you handle situations where people misunderstand you in real life?  If you really are leaving, perhaps it's for the best.  This online community is made up of expats and other foreigners who were able to tough it out in an alien culture.  We have faced many disappointments and countless misunderstandings.   We often have to endure these silently.  But here, we can explain ourselves, communicating our motives, actions, and beliefs.  If you are leaving because you feel misunderstood, you have failed communication.  If I were you, I would start acting like an adult instead of an embarrassed child.  If you are unable to do that, I wish you the best.

I don't really fly tomcats, I'd just like to. There does seem to be a lot of questions posted that seem to be only there to stir up discontent. I don't often reply any more simply because I rarely find anything worth replying to.
