Q: Extending a visa in China ?
to extend a visitor visa in China, does every city have some office to do this , or would I have to go to Hong Kong or Beijing? Unsure, I haven't found a site yet that tells me exactly what conditions apply to longer tourist visas. One year or 6 mouths , mulitple entry, does that mean I have to go to Hong kong every 2 months?

Yes, you can extend your visa at a local office. I did it in Shenzhen at the police station, but I had my host with me to translate and do all the paperwork. I had to stay past 30 days and was already on my second entry at the time.
Unless you have a letter of approval from the Chinese government you cannot get a multiple entry visa, as these are only given for business visas now. The best tourist visa you can get is a 6 month 2 entry, with a max 30 day stay (from Canada).
I am still struggling to get a proper multiple entry business visa, but at least I have a proper business visa now (3 month, 2 entry), which is the first step.
They call it the PSB office, Public Security Bureau, make sure you get it in at least three days before it expires
So a 6 month tourist visa is good for 2 stays of 30 days? I read something about this on a post, but I don't see any info on the embassy site saying this. Is it difficult to get extentions or new ones while in the country?
I read posts from USA on difficulties getting visas, so I took bank statements, hotel reservations, medical coverage etc., the Embassy just took my application and said come back in 3 days. I want to stay for 6 months, any more i lose my medical coverage from home.

Don't read about visa's from the US. Totally different in Canada. You can only stay for 30 days at a time, but you can exit or renew in Hong Kong. I would suggest calling a local Chinese visa service when you get back. This is what I plan on doing. It is too hard in Canada.
