Q: Favorite Chinese film?

I just watched "Red Cliff" and "Red Cliff 2" over the weekend and thought they were pretty awesome. Does anyone have any other recommendations of decent Chinese films? Obviously I've seen the ones that hit the West ie. Crouching Tiger, Hero, House of Flying Daggers etc. Any independent/underground film ideas would be awesome too.

I saw a good movie last week called "Lost in Thailand (人再囧途之泰囧)," which reunites actors Xu Zheng and Wang Baoqiang. It's a comedy about their mis-adventures in Thailand as Xu Zheng (who plays a scientist) tries to locate his boss and accidently gets paired up with Wang (a tourist). Xu has to find his boss before his rival co-worker (played by Huang Bo) so that he can get permission to release a renewable energy formula. Lots of physical and spoken gags, lots of Thai scenery, and, it has English subtitles.

Of course, it's nothing philosophically stimulating or a cinematic leap forward, just an enjoyable flick. It also has a nice cameo with Fan Bingbing at the end of the movie.

They are Hong Kong films but, Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar Wai are both very good. Recently watched Ai Wei Wei Never Sorry that was an eye opener.

A Beautiful Life for sure. I've seen that movie about four times. It's available on Netflix streaming.
