Ok so after much struggling I've managed to locate some of beers which I used to love back home - that being Budvar (Czech), Bittburger (German) and Staropramen (Czech) to name a few. I am still unable to find my favourite beer of all time though - a Polish brew by the name of Lech, though am happy enough I guess.
Seeing as the selection is limited, and even more so outside of major cities, what's your favourite imported beer in China? When I used to live in Liuzhou, Guangxi, it used to be Carlsberg. Dark days, dark days indeed.
For the price asked, HARBIN to me is a good choice for everyday. On special days, I do enjoy a good German black beer, but hard to find locally.
I have found Boddington's in Mianyang - big surprise !
I do not often drink foreign varieties because I don't mind ice cold Harbin or Qingdao beer. When I do, I think that I would say Budweiser and Carlsberg are the two I most often go for.
Hoegaarden, from Belgium. It has much more character than most export beers. I found it in a cafe in Guilin.
I am a drinker .... even back home though, not a connoisseur ... I like beer that tastes good and is reasonably priced .... I n China, I think the best is Harbin ........ I am today though drinking some stuff that seems to be A-OK ...but the label is all Chinese so can't tell you what it is ... probably local stuff from Zhanjiang, Guangdong
Heineken I don't like
Stella is good
Carlsberg is good
Bud .. is not good
Harbin is very good value
Tsingtao is OK
damned fools opinion .. there you go
I am in a tier 4 city and have found Delirium Tremens and Delirium Nocturnum. Stuff is delicious and definitely deserves the world class label. Sadly though it's got a price to match- 80RMB for 750ml.
I miss Budvar and Pilsner Urguell. So I drink Tsingtao at a fraction of the cost of a good Czech beer - if Czech beer were available in my town.
(Actually, I saw Budvar in SH at a City Life supermarket, but I'm not about to pay 4 bucks - 25 kuai - or more for a tiny bottle of the stuff when Tsingtao costs 60 cents - 3.5 kuai - for 600 ml.)
I've only been buying imported beer lately. My favorites are Rocheforts, Erdingers, and Paulaners. So worth the money. If I'm drinking beer it has to be a hearty one or else it just feels like a fraction of the experience.

haha excellent question:
1. I never buy imported beers in bars. holy crisp what a ripoff! An Erdinger runs about 60 rmb per bottle in bars around here. We order them from a beer delivery service here, around 24 rmb each. Not too shabby for what you're getting. Premium deliciousness
2. I really don't spend much money on entertainment, going out to eat etc. Did all of that in my early 20's so now at 28 I'm loving the simple life. A big book, an amazing beer, some relaxing music, maybe throw in an online guitar tutorial and some doctor who (still catching up lol) and you got yourself an evening:)

hoegaarden , btw , does Chinese beer make anybody else sick?especially zhu jiang ? i get nauseous after only 2 bottles of it, same thing with carlsberg ( here , in China)
I go to a Dongbei restaurant-brewery down the street, they make an amazing stout, 6 kuai a pint, strong and tasty! 2 of those and I'm happy The imported stuff is way too expensive.
CIty Life sometimes has specials on imported beers, I usually just sample what they have on offer. Usually I drink a Chinese version of a German dark beer called "Gabniel", I think its a mispelling of Gabriel. It's produced by Cheerday but has the taste of a foreign recipe, I'm sure the original was mighty fine, but the copy is pretty tasty, especially for 5.5 kuai/500 mL. "More Drink, More Appreciation" is the advertisement on the bottle.
If in SH then cheers in is the best place, does home delivery. has all the beers my company imports, primarily european brands and their pricing is not to bad. especially the deal of the week.

Not much of a beer guy myself, but I would say Budlight or Budweiser...
