Q: Is FB going to make a comeback in China?
In the course of the past few years Mark Zuckerberg has become a regular guest in Beijing striving to attract the attention of China’s top politicians. Do you think there exists any chance he will ultimately bring FB to China?
No.
FB being what it is is inimical to the aims of the CCP - ie, the almost total freedom for people to post what they want - including, and especially, political dissent.

And when I do, it is normally about American politics, with Americans. But I check it most days to find out who is shagging who :-)

FB is used widely in the middleeast (Libya, ISIS, Syria, Egypt) to express political views and organize politically, FB is used for political organization for grassroots groups (Occupy Wallstreet, Black Lives Matter, the Tea Party ). FB / Twitter make it easy to spread information.
You seem to purposefully avoid reality, why is that?

Ok, maybe I am wrong, but by reading most of your replies I can’t help having the impression that most of you are mildly speaking rather frustrated with you present life in China and as an expat myself I can understand it perfectly, but can you name at least one thing (may be an object, cultural trait or anything that comes to your mind) that you enjoy in China or your life here.
I doubt it. Internet control is getting tighter all the time in China.

Chinese government is seriously fragile. Xi is very conscious of this. Which is why they're attacking all possible avenues of news dissemination. China's economy will get worse and more civil unrest will get worse and those stories will need to be censored. Facebook in China, not while the CCP is in power
No, not possible. Too much of a threat and I am sure a bunch of them have shares of FB clones like Weibo, Renren and all that garbage.

Totally agree rob. The FB ban is all to with eliminating the competition. But again, it is a shot in the foot. The ban separates Chinese from the rest of the world. If Facebook was allowed in China, it would be displayed in Chinese. The Chinese copies, while being available worldwide, are only in Chinese. It creates a cultural barrier.

They don't want our culture, that is part of the threat... they never did. They just wanted out method of providing entertainment, luxury items, investments and innovation.
