Q: Feed a Chinese baijiu-lover some fine whiskey. Result?

Grunts in approval or retches in disgust?

If it's really that fine, they'll probably just put the bottle on a shelf or in a cabinet for display purposes only.

GuilinRaf:

Lol!

This is so true!

The student that helps me in the FAO office loves Jack Daniels.  Anyway, I had one of those small bottles of JD like the ones they serve in airplanes and he kept ohhing and ahhing it. So, since he is a nice guy and has been a very BIG help to me, I gave him the little bottle (which at first he refused, naturally). When he finally accepted it, I told him he could save it for a special occasion to which he said "No, this bottle I will keep it, not drink it!".

I dont suppose that asking if I could drink it myself and then give him the empty bottle would have been nice, right?

I'm actually about to do this too (whiskey for my gf's dad). Do bear in mind on how they drink it. When I was over at my gf's house, we would start dinner with half a bowl of baijiu. That would be our only bowl and we would just eat stuff over our bowl of baijiu and drink intermittently. I can't imagine a bowl of whiskey while I eat dinner. My taste buds would explode in awesomeness and then go numb and then not taste anything else

Once I bought with me to China some fine whiskey, really good brand and quality. I gave it to my friend, factory owner.

The same day we spent a evening in some club, where he ordered big jug, half filled with mineral water and ice... and poured all those precious golden drops into it.

Well... it wasn't the way that I expected to drink it  (as a liquor for small drinking-games...)

Vodka would probably be more suited to a baijiu drinkers taste.

Whiskey is often drank in bars, it's just mixed with ice tea totally eradicating the taste of the whiskey.

A fine whiskey is savored and they may not be accustomed to this style of drinking.

GuilinRaf:

I agree. I usually drink mine neat. Rarely on the rocks and never with cola.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
